mycompstinks
So I've read a lot about electric coals, or bowl heaters, or whatever name you call them by and most agree that they are no good. Too hard to adjust temp or unwieldy to use, or just a pain. I got an idea to make my own. Plenty of women use hair straighteners and I was looking at my woman's one the other day and noticed it has a temperature adjuster. The heat is mostly contained to the elements on the end so I was curious about buying a cheaper one that still has adjustable heats and taking it apart. I'd do away with the handle and whatnot to leave just the heating 'pads' on the end and make them able to sit on a bowl and see how it works. Anybody tried this before? or maybe thought about it? Also, does anyone know what the average temp one of the hookah coals burns at, to see if this is even possible before I destroy one of these straighteners? Zinite
There already is a product exactly like you're talking about. Someone on another hookah forum got one and reviewed it. It's basically a coil heater in a metal casing that goes where the coals do. It has a variable temperature switch. The problem is that anything like that does not vary it's heat as you take a hit. When you suck in, air passes through the bowl and over the coals, temporarily heating them up. These electric coals have no way of knowing when you're hitting, so they're constantly 'on'. All of the reviews of these products say that they burn the crap out of the shisha in just a few minutes. The solution would be to have a flow meter built into the hookah, so that when you take a hit, the flow meter measures the airflow and changes the heating element accordingly. Obviously, this is much more expensive than just throwing a blow drier up on the bowl. Feel free to try it and let us know how it works out though.
