Maybe Washington's just too cold for Tangiers.

Nope, I smoke tangiers in Washington (the east aka cold side of it) and it always smells awesome right out of the bag. No problems. I acclimate for a half hour tops. Unless you are talking DC in which case just ignore me and i'll go enjoy my tangiers. haha.

I think you guys are arguing over nothing.

Sometimes humidity just fluctuates too often and the tobacco won't acclimate. Different batches have different nicotine content, along with tobacco/molasses/glycerin etc.

If the flavor doesn't acclimate, then that's that. Eventually it will acclimate, but it could take forever. I would recommend storing it with the container cracked open. Works wonders...

Blue Gum Ball seems to be a finicky flavor! I only have problems with Blueberry, but it even out over time.

Word, the issue does exist (if you could have smelled how my blueberry smelled when i first opened it you would instantly agree haha), the blueberry is starting to smell decent though, still some nasty side/bi-flavour but there is really nothing you can do but let it lie in the open, try to let it acclimate and just hope you get lucky with the weather.

Someone over at Tangiers is gonna send me some new Lucid BGB to see if it has the same smell.

It doesn't really matter. Say if Eric packages the BGB at 60F Dew Point and you open it and the Dew Point in your city is 30F it will have to acclimate and will smell like soy sauce.

I have trouble believing that H-S has a problem with bad batches

I second that motion.

It is really hard to believe they would have bad batch's, unless they did something to piss Eric off. tongue.gif
Is it possible that you got a bad one? yes, but that is not very likely.
It is most likely the acclimation process, some flavors are less stable then others, like stated before K-peach is a good stable flavor, where as passionfruit can be a pain in the ass.

I've never had any Tangiers flavor not smell how it was supposed to smell. I think most people just don't know how it is going to/supposed to smell so they think it is bad.

lol at people denying the acclimation issue, you obviously havent smelled some un-acclimated tangiers, ahahah i dont really know what to say...

Not denying by any means. Simply saying that it seems like a lot of first time Tangiers smokers say they have a bad batch.

Agreed, heh, unacclimated tang smells horrible, could be bbq sauce, soy sauce, plastic, and so on, trust me, even if you haven't smoked tang before, you will know if it needs acclimation.

Oh and Tangiers needing QC? Haha yeah ok. That guy is all about quality control, he refuses to release mini phunnels to the public because he claims they don't smoke as well as smalls/med/large yet he knows everyone and their mother would buy one. He only releases flavors after they are PERFECT. And this is all comming from someone who refuses to smoke tang because it would never ever acclimate right over here. I believe it is just cause of the climate and has nothing to do with how he is making his shisha.

this thread has strangely made me want to open a pak of tangiers, so i chose a flavor that sounds interesting but doesn't sell a whole lot of, pear. I hope it's good and i'll report back. I mentioned to Eric this thread and hopefully he can chime in here soon.

I heard pear was really good from tang. A banned member of ours used to be obsessed with it.

I tried it, the flavor is ok, not too much but not bad by any means. I only acclimated it for an hour but it's been open all night, we'll see how it smokes tonight. also, do you guys think more humidity is better? i have it acclimating in my laudry room which should be more humid than the rest of the house.

You want to let it acclimate where ever you are going to be smoking it.  The important measurement is the Dew Point.  If the Dew Point changes day by day then you will have to acclimate before you smoke.  With tangiers some of us don't use air tight containers that way it is always acclimating.

man, i bought a bag of lucid passionfruit a while back and it was down right wierd tasting, good, sweet, but not really to my liking. now 6 months later i still have the tupperware i stored it in, and i can STILL smell the passionfruit. i decided to go ahead and order the rasberry, i like rasberry... i dont think my post had anything to do with anything though.
