uglycustoomer
So, spring is right around the corner here in ny and that means it's almost smoking weather. That being said, I usually have a bunch of people over and setup my pipes and all that stuff. This year I plan to start off the season with a traditional hookah party, only problem is, what is traditional? Hah. I figure I will serve hummus with pita bread and fruit drinks. I know alcohol isn't traditional but I'm sure I will end up getting something. So aside from hummus and non-alcoholic drinks, what else?

jhanzair
They have some tips (the only ones actually helpful are the menu-related ones I believe) here http://www.thehookahlounge.org/2006/06/27/...a-hookah-party/In the fumari site (http://www.fumari.com/hookah-etiquette) they have a section about the etiquette, in case you want to enforce some rules I'm guessing the best thing you can do (aside from what you already said) is to get some carpets and pillows (to sit on) and manage to find some arabian-thingy music to play - just to help the mood
mattarios2
Well I am 100% Lebanese and all of my relatives smoke the hookah and after the hookah they drink turkish style coffee. I am not sure if it is a Lebanese style that they drink but I know it is "Turkish style" it is dark dark dark and you only have a small cup of it because it is incredibly strong and high in caffeine Hookahjohn sells the pot:http://www.hookahjohn.com/product.sc?categ...mp;productId=78you use that to brew the coffee/tea and then serve in small cups like these :http://ursispaltenstein.ch/blog/images/upl...kish_coffee.jpg
no longer welcome
alcohol is def ok with alot to traditional smokers. not all people from the ME are the same and I'd suggest you guys drink some good lebanese arak with the food and smoke. if you need more info on what that is let me know. mattarios should have some experience with that as well. AKammenzind
Agreed, turkish coffee is great. Easy enough to brew too, even if you don't have the proper pot. In addition to hummus/pita I'd recommend getting/making some falafel, baba ganoush, olives, and stuffed grape leaves. None of that is much trouble to make (although baba ganoush and stuffed grape leaves can be time consuming if you make em from scratch). You could also pick up some turkish delight, mamoul, or just dates for a little something sweet as well. I basically went through and picked out the things that most people will eat... there are a lot of picky little shits in this world. Also, if you're going to have multiple hookahs going it might be worthwhile to pick up some zaghloul if you don't have any, and if non-flavored tobacco is your thing. Goes great with mamoul and coffee. Edited February 19, 2009 by AKammenzind

jhanzair
Yeah, my parents went to morocco and they talked about that, now I remember. They have tea (from my parents description I thought it was mint tea, but it may have been tea with mint leaves as SmokinMoose said) in those "bars" they went to, where they smoked narguilés. jellywerker
Mint tea is pretty traditional, and on the alcohol side, be sure to check out Arak.
