Yet Another Tangiers Help Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have read the threads about tangiers, seen the videos, etc. I just tried my first smoke of it yesterday and it was pretty bad. So I thought someone out there could point out what I'm doing wrong. Here's the skinny:

-Received my first batch (Kashmir Apple) a couple of days ago. As per the suggestions here I let it acclimate on a piece of foil for about 5 hours. (Also, I live in Washington DC in case region is important)

-I used a new Mya leather hose after washing it

-Used a small difuser on my medium sized Turkish hookah. The hookah was cleaned before use and I always clean after every time.

-Used my regular Egyptian bowl as my firs trying Phunnel this week was not a success

-Packed the bowl looselly but with enough tobacco. Covered it with foil as usual and used medium sized holes all around the foil in no particular pattern.

-Used 2 Golden Coals

Problems:

1st thing I noticed is that the tobacco never really seemed as juicy as other brands I'm accustommed to (Starbuzz, Romani, etc)

The smell was strong, it smelled pretty much like a potpourri bowl

I started smoking and the flavor was ok but the smoke was pretty harsh. It wasn't ashy but I could only take very small and shallow pulls. It tasted as if I were smoking a whole bowl of potpourri. I dropped one coal and tried with just the remaining one but it didn't do much. I was never able to really get a good pull out of it.

Is Tangiers always like this? I got tired of it and so I loaded up a bowl of Layalina blackberry and it smoked completely fine. I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Help would be greatly appreciated

Don't pack Tangiers the way you would pack other tobaccos ... seems like you didn't put enough tobacco in the bowl. Try packing the bowl a bit more tightly, not necessarily pushing the tobacco down, but you really don't want to sprinkle it in there.

Also, Tangiers is usually one of the juiciest tobaccos i've ever seen. Edited by ebarnes02

Should def invest in a phunnel bowl but tangiers is smokeable in an egyptian bowl. you have to pack tight. once you pack it push the foil down. poke holes all the way down till you hit the bottom of the bowl. Tangiers doesnt need a lot of heat 2 golden coals is a lot of heat on a egyptian bowl. Try breaking the coals apart and placing them all over the place to get better heat.

also check that page out.

Tangiers is usually juicy but not dripping wet like AF or Starbuzz. Edited by newjacksm

Washed your Mya hose?

Throw it in the trash, it'll be coated with rust on the inside.

It's a Cloisonne synthetic leather hose, I thought those were washable

most leather hoses have metal coils inlaid in them, which is what rusts.

There are currently two types of washable hoses on the market. Nammor/Razan hoses (they're the same thing), and the Grand Washable hose.

Even the KM Washable hose isn't washable.

Thanks for the info, I've always washed all my hoses and had never really had a noticeable problem.

By washing we are talking about rinsing right? Which is what I do.

Yeah. Washing it with water causes the inner coil to rust. Over time, the rust will break off and you will inhale bits of rust.
