I May Have Smoked Too Much Last Night...

Recommended Posts

Anyone else had this happen to them before? I've had the headache/nausea thing before from smoking too much, but this is the first time where I've not really been able to talk. Granted, I just got over some weird bug that was going around... maybe three bowls back-to-back-to-back wasn't the most brilliant of ideas.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning with congestion or a sore throat, but it usually goes away with a glass of orange juice. Probably the combination of being sick and smoking.

I've had that happen too... but this has been going on all day! I did notice my voice was getting considerably lower and lower as the night wore on... then I wake up this morning and it's flat out gone. So weird.

Yes that has happened to me a few times, but I chalk it up to both the type of shisha I was using and how close the coals were to the shisha. I used layalina(sp) cheap brand and I've had some other bad affects from it. I also found that if my coals were close the shisha it would char the crap out of it and make it harsh enough to kill my throat. May also be the coals themselves, I was using cheap crap there too... I haven't any problems after I changed brands and techniques... Edited by Red_Pyramid

Layalina isn't a shitty shisha... and the coals should be close to the shisha. There should only be the foil separating the coal and tobacco. More than likely, it's a combination of ash falling in the tobacco and having too much heat on it (too many coals).

Hell, alumimum foil is .029mm thick, so the coals might as well be touching shisha directly as far as distance. The foil does dissipate quite a bit of heat though.

Layalina happens to be my very favorite... wink.gif

It was not however, on my list of things I smoked last night. Just SB and AF. I did, however, use Fumari Japanese Coals for the very first time...once at the hookah bar and once for my session after the hookah bar. I'm wondering if perhaps there was too much silver coating on there that managed to take me out...

I also overpacked my Egyptian bowl a little bit...it didn't taste burnt, but airflow seemed a little restricted. Another possible reason?

I used 3K's for my first session, but those were lit for sure...they've also never given me problems in the past.

This happened not too long ago to my friend who I was smoking with. He was getting over a cold and the next day he could barely speak.. He basically cleared his throat for about 15 mins and it started coming back. I would also try to drink a lot of fluids even when i smoke to help keep the throat from getting dry.

As for the Orange Juice it is good for vitamins, but if you are getting over a cold it will add to the phlegm and that will cause more problems.. I find to clear up the sinuses drink something carbonated. It helps break up everything. At least it works for me. I have chronic sinus issues.

If I smoke 2-3 hours a day for long periods (5+ days) straight, I'll need to take a break. Feels more like bad cottonmouth then anything, gotta always chug water.

As an aside, three nights ago I stayed up all fking night smoking for six hours straight and was fine the next day...just cottonmouth.

Drink a ton of water, tea with Honey (honey is always good for the throat, when its irritated, or your sick etc).

I have a really sensitive throat and sometimes I get a sore throat or swollen tonsils. Nowhere near as bad as when I smoked cigarettes. Back then I was sick all the time. With hookah it only happens if I really over-do it. Just more proof that Shisha is awesoem and Cigs are gross.

Indoors for all three sessions, don't recall being cold even once. I'm thinking I just wasn't as over my cold thing as I had previously thought.
