Mnh Scalli Alternatives?

Recommended Posts

So I've encountered an interesting problem. Probably the first of it's kind. I got a friend of mine to "see the light" and he ordered a phunnel and the glass scalli from MNH. I had never seen the scalli that MNH sells (I use the tea light candle method) so this was new to both of us. The thing is huge! His phunnel happened to be a bit larger than mine, but still, the scalli was huge. Even with an empty bowl, the top of the scalli was higher than the edge of the bowl. Packing the bowl was interesting because there was this mound in the foil. I like smoking with a scalli but I don't like the idea of having to constantly get candles or having a glass piece that's way too big. Any thoughts?

When I ordered my glass phunnel and mod the mod was made for the phunnel. The mod is 3/16" lower than the rim.
You are right it would be a bitch if the mod stood taller. Were these ordered as a set?

No, they were separate (which, I'm assuming is a problem?).

I read somewhere about someone making one with a Jager bottle cap? I have one laying around. I put it in the bowl and it fits perfectly. Would just need to make little cuts for air flow. I'm just worried about heat vaporizing the paint and then me inhaling it.

Get your tongs and hold the bottlecap over a flame for a few minutes, and clean it off. Anything left on it definitely won't come off from coal heat if it doesn't come off from an open flame.

I think MNH Scalli glass mods are for Tangiers small and medium phunnels ONLY. I don't think it'll work for any other phunnel bowl.

It even says on the site that they're for Tangiers small and medium phunnels. Read carefully before you buy. Edited by JDHarding

Good idea. I might look into that.

I'm pretty sure I have a small phunnel. It looks small compared to others I've seen. Here's a pic for size comparison if it helps any.

You could save yourself from all the hassle and just smoke without using a mod.

Uh...yeah. I did that once. Did NOT end well. Never again...

What tobacco were you using? What was the problem? I smoke without a mod and so do many others.

+1

I have a mod, and I've used it probably 3 times in the past 6 months.

that would have to be wierd, on the one hand you'd get to see you product blown in glass, taken to the next level...
on the other hand, you have to pay for it.

It was Al-Waha watermelon. Flavor was amazing, but I got hardcore CO poisoning. I was able to smoke for about 10-15 minutes and that's about it. I was nauseous and ready to puke. Too much went from the coal and down the hole. I packed like everyone said you're supposed to and...bam. Sickness. But with the scalli, it's much better. No sickness at all.

Mod doesn't change you getting CO poisoning. That happens when you use coals that aren't lit all the way - or lighting a quicklight in an enclosed area and staying there.

If that's the only reason you're using the mod, ditch it. Light your coals all the way and you'll be fine.

Dont put a hole in the middle or near the middle, i use only 2 rows around the outside as far out as i can get them...
but i do feel the mod is waht makes the most sense, air flow wise and no shisha goes down the middle...plus i ALWAYS had shisha in the bottom left over, mod took care of that right away...
Heres a picture of hte furniture caps, one of them i just heated to get the rainbow effect, the other i was too lazy to clean back to its polished look...
$1.50 a pop, worth it totally.
