So, I love me a good cup of coffee. REAL coffee, none of that caramel mocha latte bullshit. We are talking real coffee with nothing more than a splash of skim milk and half a pack of Splenda. I love to grind my own coffee and sometimes use a French Press to brew my joe.

Starbucks Gold Coast Blend
Bucks County Owner's Reserve (Kenya if I can find it)
Jeremiah's Pick Organic Sumatra Gayo



I'm looking for more brands to try (whole bean only please!!!) that are reasonably priced. Open to anything and post up your favs!

The shop by my house usually has Ethiopian Harar or Yirgacheffe, and I could drink those all day.

I also like Blue Mountain Coffee from Jamaica and most Kenyan beans.

I'm not very knowledgeable about brands and types unless I drink them a lot, but I know good from bad when I drink it. I take it strong, no cream, no sugar.

I usually drink the regular Delta - I'm not sure if you can find the brand on that side of the atlantic :x. It's really great though - tons of flavor, no bitterness, and pretty inexpensive.

Right now I got a lot Gevalia, Boca Java, and some from a Private Roaster down in Arlington.

Won't touch Starbucks though, prefer the non-burned beans.

I like to use a French Press but after my last one broke I have just been brewing in the coffee maker.

Also get Espresso beans for my Espresso machine, don't use it much anymore, I need to though.

Hahaha, that's just what was close by. I love drinking just straight black but sometimes, i like a little sweetness so I grab either splenda or raw cane sugar, whichever is stocked.

jhanzair, are there any particularly good Portuguese coffees? I love Portuguese anything so I really wanna try biggrin.gif

I love coffee. While I might get persecuted for liking Starbucks I only drink their coffee and I drink it black. I haven't found a brand that I consider to be the best but there's a local coffee shop that has their own bean roaster and I don't think I'd ever find a better cup of coffee.

I'm near Seattle, so I'm pretty spoiled coffee wise even though I drink very little. When I do drink it I tend to stay simple with some fresh local roasted beans and a french press. Maybe some cane sugar, and usually no dairy. When you have a good coffee, you don't have to be a snob to notice the flavor nuances like chocolate and such, and you don't need to dress it up with spices, creamers, and sweeteners.

It's like alcohol. You have a cheap rum and you taste your tongue being burned off with a hint of sweetness. You get a good one and sip it at room temperature and you can smell and taste many things while your tongue is being burned off. Same thing with coffee. You get a good roast and the right temperatures and you actually can taste those things you hear other people pretending to notice in their cup of S***bucks.

Well I'm a student so I don't get to drink fancy coffee.
In fact, the only brand I've been consistently buying is Lavazza. I brew it on a stovetop coffee maker, italian style. Splash of milk, no sugar for me smile.gif

I do love to have a caffe macchiato in little italy when the weather's nice... shot-sized, of course.

As for Starbucks, I never really enjoyed their dark roasts plus I'm a bit scarred after having lived in Vancouver where that damn paper cup is like a fashion accessory.

Hate to go off on a tangent... but having a cup of coffee with a cig at the break of dawn makes me miss those damn cancer sticks sad.gif

Anyway, Lavazza is actually a pretty good brand. I like their Sumatra a lot.

Starbucks is honestly not that bad. It just hits the pallet a little differently as all coffee does. I just hate how A LOT of people these days don't and can't drink a proper cup of coffee. It pains me to see someone pour out half their cup of coffee, fill it back up with cream and then pour 3+ packets of sugar. It's disgusting seeing people walk around with blonde coffee. At teh same time, when you ask for coffee black, it gives you this sense of power biggrin.gif

A cup of folgers with a sweet-n-low is fine with me. I don't need nothin' fancy. Being stationed in Seattle, I see lots of people spending $20-$50 on a can/bag of coffee and that is just crazy.

Used to work at a Starbucks so if you actually know how to prepare it, they make some godly coffees. My favorite is Arabian Mocha Sanani, french pressed of course. Another one of my favorites is there Christmas blend. And something you should really try if you like some more citrus taste is a cup of Starbucks Kenyan while eating a grapefruit. The grapefruit really brings out the citrus in the coffee to make it even more of a unique and outstanding taste.

I'm a big fan of Newport Bay coffee company... Its just down the road from where I live... They roast their own beans, and do a damn good job... Some of my favorites are their Morning DeFrogger and their Killer Koffee

If you're really serious about the absolute best coffee, you should look into home roasting. I've been home roasting for about a year now. Get my beans from Sweet Maria's (http://sweetmarias.com/) and roast them in an old hot air popper out on my deck. Recently, I've been roasting beans from south America to a dark roast and enjoying every cup.

One of my co-workers who is a big time coffee snob swears by Intelligentsia's Black Cat espresso blend (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/). He wasn't up to home roasting, and this is the best that he's found outside of that. I have to agree that it's very good.

I do have to give a shout out to Mill Mountain Coffee in southwest Virginia. Definitely the best coffee that I've had in a coffee shop and I brewed their beans back when I lived in SW VA (http://www.millmountaincoffee.com/).

We have a quote which I firmly believe hanging up near the coffee machine at work: "If you must defile your coffee with cream and sugar, please take a moment to consider what you are doing."

So in desperation for some halfway decent decaf coffee, I broke down and got starbucks Sumatra. Not bad at all. For a bold coffee (let alone decaf), had nice body with a mild character to it with good acidity.

The Kenyan I will try tomorrow morning biggrin.gif

Seeing that this is coffee talk (not just "im a man and I take it hard!") I do enjoy regular coffee always with some sort of creamer and splenda, but I LOOOOOVE to spoil myself with a starbuck iced caffe americano! =)

Starbucks a couple months ago released an Aged Sumatra blend which was rather expensive ( $13 for half a pound). I bought it for my dad for Christmas and it was the smoothest and strongest coffee I've ever had. If you can find it and have some extra money I highly suggest it.
