No it wasn't all in response to you but the point is that humans are Apes. Period. We are Apes. It's not humans are primates and so are apes. It's humans are apes and so are apes.

Take that to mean what you will. The term ape is not a good descriptor for humans. If you want to get into evolutionary vernacular or jargon, there are much better adjectives for the human evolutionary genre than 'ape'.

As I've said repeatedly humans are great apes. Apes. We're having a scientific discussion, why would we use words in a non scientific manner? The term ape is a fine descriptor for humans, especially in the evolutionary sense because it puts things in context, however this is a silly side discussion and it's completely pointless. Humans are apes, yes you're correct, some people who do not know that humans are apes call other animals apes in normal every day conversation and disbelieve that humans are apes. That's fine but it doesn't matter for what we are discussing. Let's stay on topic.

I lol'd. Yinz guys are talking about grade school taxonomy, and I'm really not sure why... Hey, at least there's no bibles and bits of blessed spaghetti flying back and forth though like when most other forums discuss evolution.
