FamiliarJoe
Heat management seems to be my biggest problem since I got my small tangiers phunnel bowl. I have been limited on the kinds of coals I had around the house to try it out, specifically HUGE golden QL's that were way to big for the bowl. My other option was the small square exoticas (I absolutely hate them )I have tried every combination you could possibly think of with these coals, breaking a big golden QL and putting 1 half on each side of the bowl hanging off, 2 exoticas, 3 exoticas, etc. I just can't get a good bowl that isn't harsh 5 minutes into the bowl with thin smoke! My question isWhat do you think I need to try to get my phunnel bowl working ? I am determined to get this thing ripping, I really want to get thick smoke but it just isnt happening. I am going to re-up at my local shop today and buy some regular size golder QL's and some AF (that's the only shisha my shop has besides starbuzz and AW :X) Any specific advice would be much appreciated, hopefully I can get a good smoke session tonight
Zinite
Pack it in tighter, and break up the big QL coal into quarters. Start out with 2 quarters of the coal on, and add an extra piece if it isn't smoking. Always start out with less..... If you add too much, you can burn it too much. Also, if you do get it harsh, try this:Take the coals off the bowl, and take the bowl off the hookah. Hold the bottom side of the bowl near your mouth, and blow four or five lung fulls of air into it. This will pass cool air over the inside of the bowl, cooling it down. Does wonders to fix a harsh bowl.

It would push the tinfoil up as well (not sure if that would help).I will give it a go... should I pack a LOT more shisha in to where im compressing it into the bowl? mattarios2
I fluff it in there, just sprinkle it in, then push down on the bowl with your palm, then sprinkle more so it is above the bowl and once again push it down with your palm, do it until it is level with the bowl. Add 2 half pieces of charcoal, if not enough, add another, and so on and so on until smoke is legit. If you cant seem to find a good amount of heat it is prob b/c you aren't packing enough. The more shisha the more heat it can take. So if you only use a little shisha the heat burns it and you get thin weak smoke no matter how much heat you give it. joytron
Thats a bitch! All i have to stay is stick with it. At first i always had terrible sessions, then they were mostly decent, and things just kept improving. Now i found a set up i really like and get good sessions most of the time. I think the best lesson i learned was being patient with the bowl. Dont expect to get huge clouds the first 30 seconds, let your bowl heat up slowly. Good luck, one time everything will come together perfectly and you will think "now this is why i smoke hookah."oh and plus one to mattarios

chinamon
here is what i do with AF and my small tangiers phunnel- sprinkle tobacco in bowl until it is about 5mm higher than the rim- put foil over it (the foil will pack the bowl down a little bit)- make three rings of holes with 18 holes each (toothpick size)- use three halves of the quicklights on the bowl in a triangle formation (i do three coconut coals but three halves of QL will do the same)this works for me EVERY time.
