My Km Is Looking Tarnsih / Possible Corrosion / Maybe Rust? Need Your Help

So ive been drying my Km with just a towel on the outside and blowing the water out of the hose ports and stem and leaving out to dry out completely

but I guess Im going to have to start blow drying it but wondering how to get rid of this tarnish or whatever it is

I did searches and all i found was WD 40... just wondering what best

Dude the inside of the hose port is the only thing that seems sketchy....the rest is just brass.

i hadnt thought about it till now, but you might be able to take it to your local instrument repair shop and get them to put a coat of laquer on it, wont get rid of the varnish but it will sstop it from spreading.

you have a little rust outside hose port. best thing to do is polish up the outside, as far as the inside goes take a wire braided brush(gun cleaning brush) and get that rust off of it.

from now on you should also probably start blow drying it. I know some KM's are higher quality than others, so I don't risk it, after every smoke, scrub it then blow dry, I have been doing that and they all look shiny as can be, after hundreds of uses.

Some people wash them once a week and have no issues, so it sucks some are higher quality than others.

Do what others have suggested and upkeep on her a bit more and you should be just fine.

I'd suggest a scotch brite pad for the rust. For preventing this, make sure the hookah is completely dry when cleaning it.

I decided to look some natural rust cleaners and I found that I guess coca cola is a great cleaner... as long as u dont leave it

so I poured it in there and let it sit a min... scrubed with a brush and then taped some sand paper around my hookah poker and did the exit hole

Now its sitting in some oil I found in my garage that keeps stuff from rusting









AND i found what caused it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!








See that hole on the bottom left... that weld that kind of isnt welded.... I put some of the lube in it and it would seep in and then i put my lips on that spot and blew and little air would go threw......SOOO water was getting trapped in there and rusting my shit

Km needs to get there shit together

that's a tough one. us vendors don't have much of a choice atm. we don't import or manufacture. i'll tell you one thing, there is a ton of hookahs flooding the market that aren't even as close to the quality of a KM. imo they are still the best. some look prettier, mya for example, but for functionality you can't go wrong with a km or mz. the imperfections are worth it sometimes. they still have the right design in their inner workings for a great smoke.

uh...the purge valve, and hose port are brass...your "tarnish" is the area thats not plated (maybe held by that part during plating). nearly all my kms have that (unless its just brass w/out plating). brass weld also it seems

eh it's sort of yes and no man. I no of many people who don't wash their km's really ever. Then when their pipe starts to smell like shit they wash it and have been doing that same method for quite some time and their pipes have no issues. I baby mine hard core so I have no issues. Some people baby theirs too and their pipes start to corrode. It is all by luck, some km's are better quality than others. If you buy one and the quality sucks, just return it. I think it is worth it to take a chance or baby it and go through the hassle. But everyone enjoys what they enjoy so to each his own.

My local hookah bar uses KM's and AF hookahs, treat them the same way it appears. I haven't seen the down stems of the KM's but I'm guessing they're not in good shape. I used to baby my mya hookahs, haha then I realized I didn't have to and sometimes I just let the pipe sit there in the water when I'm busy and don't feel like scrubbing and drying it. Right now one of my myas has been sitting in the water for about 5 or 6 days. It's just fine.

My plan was to by the KM Exotica then maybe an MZ but now maybe I'll go with an MZ and a Nour as suggested. I wish I could call up Khalil Mamoon and tell him to build a nice solid pipe for me, for which I'd pay extra. No sloppy welding jobs, no random protruding metal pieces that need to be shaved down with professional tools. Just a good, solid hookah! Edited March 2, 2009 by An1m
