newjacksm
Well when I first got my KM in i noticed it was rusted already but I cleaned it off pretty easily, I dont know if this was there when I got it and I just didnt notice or it just started to happen. I got my KM in August so to me its pretty much still a baby! the purge port looks completly rusted I dont know how! the hose port looks like it can be saved...purgeunless the purge port is suppose to look like that because of the brass then thank goodness then all i have to worry about is my hose port which can easily be taken care of. dafunk5446
QUOTE (Scoop @ Mar 2 2009, 08:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>the purge and hose ports are brass. once the rumors start its impossible to end. le sighWell the purge is for sure brass, but the hose port....hmmm dont know about it being brass, that really does look like rust. It is possible that it is a tarnish, but like AK said, its a little to brown to just be a tarnish. If the hose port is brass its not just brass, it has a coating on it (obviously since its silver and not yellow). Now if there is a coating on it there is a chance of imperfections in the coating methods, which is leading to the rust. It seems strange to me that they would go through a coating procedure for the hose port but not for the purge.... I could be wrong, it might just be patina from the copper perportions of the brass mix, or possibley the solder used as well.
newjacksm
Well I rubbed some baking soda paste in both the ports and let it chill there for about 10 min and then I started scrubbing, the purge port was incredibly dirty there was brown shit every where. when I looked into it when I was down it was a nice golden brown istead of a dirty brown like rust so what ever was in there is out. as far as the hose port its gone the baking soda took care of it. MechAnt
Sigh, I already know what brass looks like so I'm not worried but I still got the shit end of the KM stickI can take more pics with even crazier detail of the corrosion
SmokinMoose
Thats the first time I ve ever seen that on a KM I leave some of my KMs in the water for days and none have corrosion like that. MechAnt
Worst part about it, never left it in water. When I finish smoking, I clean it immediately
delSol_si
I'm having the exact same problem with my new KM ice. Hose port corrosion and/or rust, valve port and ball bearing completely rusted, there was a lip on the end of the stem that goes into the vase that rusted and fell off(tho this lip falling off actually helped the hookah smoke better). I also have a heat mark on the ash tray from setting a coal down on it for a bit too long I guess. The hookah really smokes like a beast when I smoke Layalina, but I expected better quality in the materials, being a KM and all...the vase that came with it is very nice and thick, tho the paint has already started coming off. delSol_si
Oh, and I don't leave my in water either, I don't do a full clean everytime, but I do at least rinse and set everything upside down to dry(that way no water it sitting in it. I also wait until the vase is dry as possible before reassembling it.
Scoop
the vase isn't made by km. they are all crap imo. the trays all get burn marks.

I'll just pretend that was never mentioned [Riiight...].Agreed. I am still glad I bought it. Like I said, it smokes really well. I have gotten countless compliments from it. I can get buzzed off one hit after it gets started (I don't smoke anything except hookah). This hookah with this hose is seriously just like breathing, takes no effort to suck on the hose. I can't count how many times I let someone take a hit off it and their first words are "holy shit!" followed by wide eyes. And all I'm using is Layalina, 3 kings and a regular clay bowl that came with it(not phunnel). If I have to put up with some bullshit, then thats fine, as long as it lasts me a good year or so. Balthazar
I have the same corrosion-problem as MechAnt and other does. Both my KM Hafa and Nour Bohemian has that on the outside of the stem (no idea about the inside). I don't clean the hookahs more often than say once a week (I only have two sessions per week), and never the same day as I smoke, but I don't leave the stem in water after my sessions either... Now, I know next to nothing about rust or corrosion, but is this dangerous? Edited March 4, 2009 by Balthazar
