JDHarding
Hmm.. packed the phunnel with AF Watermelon, that felt a bit dry, put the glass screen on and 3 coco naras heated up completely till ashed over. Waited 10 minutes for the screen to heat up, and the smoke is thin. Whaaa? Lots of flavor, but the smoke is thin. What gives? Shisha too dry? Diffuser not working right? It fit on the end of the stem airtightly.Diffuser's the only thing I added this time, though I didn't use Nakhla. Maybe I should use Nakhla. JDHarding
Wooooo!John's quicklights are awesome. Put one on the burner, it heated up real fast and caught on fire, put it on the screen.. BAM.. big clouds! So it was too little heat.
JDHarding
Now I got 4 cocos and one of John's quicklights on there.. lol.. might be too much heat.
JDHarding
Awww yeeeah.Ditched the 3 old cocos, and put another quicklight on. 2 quicklights and a coco.. perfect!
JDHarding
*sigh* Okay. One problem with quicklights is.. they don't stay hot very long if air isn't going through them, so they don't work well on a glass screen.Back to using 4 fresh, fully lit coco naras. mattarios2
wait a minute ... 4 cocos on whats size phunnel? 4 cocos is an awful lot of heat, sounds like you aren't packing enough shisha so you need more heat to get thick smoke because the heat has to travel farther to the bottom of the bowl. JDHarding
Yeah probably..I also noticed I had water in the hose port and hose.. so I filled the base up too high too.
mattarios2
you shouldn't need more than 3 cocos .. on my mini I use 2 cocos and a wind cover and it smokes strong for an hour.
JDHarding
My wind cover doesn't fit this hookah. It's too long from ash tray to the top of the bowl.
mattarios2
use 2 sets of tongs (if you have 1 then buy 1 more) and lay them on the ash tray, that will give it a raise so the wind cover can fit on there.
delSol_si
Thought I should add to this thread...I got a 32" KM ice from hookahjohn.com. I have had major rust issues with it. So far, like you said, the hose port looks a bit rusted (though I think a lot of this can be contributed to the brass color). After using it one time, I left the purge/choke valve (whatever you want to call it) in. I kept using it and eventually I wasn't getting a good hit off it anymore. Much to my surprise, the ball bearing and the place it sits was completely rusted. I didn't realize water even got up there, but I guess it did somehow. I was kinda dissappointed, but then just took the ball out and shoved some foil in it and went back to smoking again. Probably just have to sand the rust down and buy a new ball bearing and be more careful next time. Thought it was stainless steel, which is why I wasn't concerned, but I was wrong. I also no longer put ice in the chamber because I am affraid of it rusting. I have had several problems with it, but it does smoke amazingly, so I really can't complain a whole lot, I just expected KM to be better quality in their build. Oh, and not to mention the tube that goes down into the vase of water used to have a inner ring type deal that completely rusted and fell off, though it did make the hole bigger, so I guess it's not that big of a deal. redjako
Also, compard to quick lites, silvers and exotica's, Coco's are the longest lasting / hottest...I notice codename uses 4 coco's when he's chugging his smoke, I couldn't tell what size his phunnel was (med?) Brass doesn't rust it turns green. What you are describing must not be rust if it is brass.

I know the valve/choke thing is rusted though, I will take pictures sometime and post them when I get a chance. Again, the thing smokes like a beast, just not made as good quality as I expected. Still good hookah tho.
mattarios2
and is the purge valve brass? or ss?
joytron
no offense JD but i think you are over thinking this whole hookah thing. It just takes some practice getting heat management down, you dont need to post up every five minutes, not enough smoke or to much heat. Just fiddle with it and report back if you are stuck. Other then that, you when you start to get it down you will no when its starting to get too hot before it happens.
Scoop
if flavoring and glycerine from the smoke get stuck in the purge valve, it looks like brown gooy stuff, as it hardens it looks like rust. it comes off pretty easily
