Wait a second, which war?

WW II

WWII was much later than 1905-1907, I guess people were just assuming the engravings with the date were very close to the time of the war though.

Yeah, I was just wondering because WWI would have made his father one of 7 or so veterans still around.

Wait a second? He picked it up in WW2? Dude whatever the years and letters engraved on that mean..it was 40 or so years before the second world war, and like 6 before WW1. Like I said in my previous post..the only conflicts going on in those years in Germany was war declared by France and Britain on Germany...why and what that thing is..and why it stuck around for 40 years in Berlin..I have no idea. very interesting though.

It doesnt look like any kind of pipe that i can tell.

It also doesnt look like a bagpipe mouthpiece either, it's too long for that.

What do the ends look like? it looks like one or both sides of the mostly strait piece is threaded. What do the rest look like?

That one in the link looks similar but i think it may also be mislabeled as a hookah.

good find. some kind of portable hookah? OP, give it a spin and let us know how it smokes, lol

I wouldn't recommend that at all! if it is anything that someone would put their mouth on you could be putting yourself in danger health wise. yes i realize medicine has advanced but with mold and "dead" diseases you never know what could happen. Besides, either way that thing is old as shit and would probably taste nasty anyways. you might break it as well which would be no good.

Great decoration piece none the less. would just be nice for you to get some information, from us or not, on what it is so you could tell people what it was and some history about it with confidence, instead of making shit up.

I'm gonna as a friend of mine who is a huge WWII buff. Even though this does not seem to be a WWII related item, he may have some insight. I'll post up again soon.

Ok, just talked to him and his immediate reaction was it was "That's part of bagpipes!" he knew a guy in a band who played bagpipes and his was similar to that. "His had weird stuff like that on it" But when i showed him the picture at the end he said "well.... now that is weird." he suggested you send the pictures to some curators and see what they think.

Good luck with it. I actually am thinking about bidding on that one on e-bay. seems like something i would want to ahve for some reason...

Hmmm. My guess is that its not a tobacco pipe, otherwise there would be a larger bowl. The only other things commonly smoked that have small-hole breaches are all NHT substances...I don't think its the common one that first comes to mind, I think its the other one, the one that enslaved China. Is there some sort of hole on the side, near the far end?

If It were a piece of a bagpipe, it would have more holes in.

This is a very weird coincidence, I was just looking up and there is actually a new Forum for this sort of stuff...Miscellaneous Pipe Forum

Iron Crosses were dated 1907, too, I think. I'm 65% sure its NHT related, maybe we should...ya know...its not a hookah, for sure. Its not any sort of tobacco pipe I've ever seen. (Doesn't mean its not.)

lol you linked to HF haha!!

Sonthert if it were the mouthpiece/blowpipe part of a bagpipe, it would not have more holes. The part you are thinking of with all the holes is the chanter.

The other simpler piece might be a part of a drone (the stick thingies you see sticking up) but they are usually more elegant looking than the blowpipe.

If it is NHT related, I imagine there is a main piece we would be missing but it is irrelevant because if it is deemed to be for NHT use, you're gonna have to move it to another forum. Not the one Sonthert posted cause its this forum lol!

Either way, because there are obviously 2 threaded ends on the more plain pipe, there is a piece missing. probably mor i would imagine. do the pieces fit together at all?

I've been searching and searching! A buddy of mine has a hookah (WWII era) that his great grandfather pulled off of a member of the German Horse Cavalry (after shooting him in the face).

It looks strikingly similar to this, especially the wood stash looking part at the top. His is complete, with a porcelain bowl with some writing on it and a bit of painting. Next time I meet up with him I'll take a few pics.

Did you ever find out the worth of your item?
