JDHarding
I watched a video on youtube of Hookah John packing his phunnel with Tangiers lucid by using a fork or spoon and just scooping the stuff in. So I decided to try this method. I ditched my glass screen, and used foil instead and WOW.. Tangiers is better when it's packed over the rim of the phunnel! 3 cocos on a small phunnel and I'm blowing HUUUUUGE clouds. There is some harshness, but nothing I can't handle. The taste is great. The vid is here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OyFPCsbe_MThe trick seems to be overpacking, then poking the holes ALL THE WAY DOWN to the bottom of the phunnel. This gets the heat down through all the shisha. Edited March 5, 2009 by JDHarding
JDHarding
Quick question.. since packing Tangiers like this has created such awesome smoke and flavor, should I pack all my shishas in the phunnel this way? Just overpack them and poke the holes deep? Seems like it should work for them all.
Hobbs
Chances are you'd burn something like Al Fakher or Starbuzz trying that, but don't let me stop you.
Arcane
i use john's way (really eric's way i think) for packing lucid. but, i still do the light and fluffy with all other shisha. i'll try packing AF Grape using eric's way tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Victim026
Honestly you shouldnt need to overpack lucid like that, only reg tangiers.

You can overpack a bit over the top of the bowl and be ok however I wouldn't recommend nearly as high as you would Tangiers..... You wanna leave a bit of air room for other shishas.I'm glad to hear you have discoved the awesomeness that is Tangiers. JDHarding
I already knew Nakhla was good overpacked, but I wasn't sure about AF. AF's probably best sprinkled on.

JDHarding
Just loaded my small phunnel bowl with AF Watermelon using this method. I mixed and fluffed it with a fork first, then just scooped it into the bowl. I didn't overfill the bowl, but I did fill it to the top of the bowl. Foil over it, poked holes straight to the bottom. 2 coco naras. BAM.. big smoke, big flavor, awesome. I tried 3 coals first, but whoo, way too much heat. It's the holes poked straight to the bottom of the phunnel that's the secret to using this thing, I think. I used to just poke the foil, but it never cooked through all the shisha that way. Edited March 5, 2009 by JDHarding

Scoop
ive packed everything this way. nakhla, AF, starbuzz, tangiers, salloum. it doesn't matter, you get the same result. i never have problems with burning tastes. just dont overheat the bowl when it doesn't need heat. hookah hippie
when using cocos I start with 2 usually and add one if necessary after a few minutes it doesn't take much heat to smoke
Arcane
so, here's my result with packing AF like tangiers:i think i pretty much burned the top layer of shisha right off the bat. it was harsh and tasted like crap. after playing with the heat a little, it started smoking well but the flavor wasn't quite right.i'll stick to light and fluffy with AF.on a side note, i'm doing a medium pack (somewhere in between flufft and tangiers pack) with lucid k-cherry. it's not bad so far. liquidglass
something you need to remember with any shisha is always see how the first round of coals do first, give it a few minutes to warm up. Then add more coals if it's still not meeting what you think it should.
