JDHarding
Ran out of Coco Naras, so I decided to try some of John's quicklights I had purchased and.. well.. never used. They're causing the smoke to be a darker color than the coco naras. Is this normal? It's almost a black smoke like I'm burning something.
mattarios2
umm ive used them and they don't make the smoke "black" I am not sure what you are doing there.
JDHarding
Hmm.. maybe they're burning the Naklha I put in there? It's just a darker shade of smoke, not the usual pure white clouds I get. No noticable difference in taste. My eyes might be playing tricks on me.

kryptiq
Personally I would never use any coals besides CocoNaras, especially if the QL's gave ya black-ish smoke.
JDHarding
I think John's natural coals are probably better than the quicklights. These things are already dying on me after 20 minutes. Pff. They also don't burn very hot.
mattarios2
then ur doin something wrong, or must use other coals that get very very hot, HJ QL actually burn very hot
JDHarding
Hmm.. I'm using the portable stovetop coil to light them, which causes them to catch fire and light quickly. Maybe I should leave them on there till they're red hot like cocos?
Illmatic
You'll always get something dodgy with any black shit left on the coal, well in my experience anyway.
Voski
The way those coals ash is weird for me I had a hard time using them. They aren't a straight substitute for cocos you need to use them differently.
