So I'm almost done with the novel but decided to finish it before seeing the movie. If you've seen it already, what did you think?

i would have enjoyed the movie if they turned off the sound. Diddnt really like the characters and the movie dragged itself aimlessly for three. Visiually it was stunning but in the end i ddnt understand any of the characters motives. Very dissapointed especially since i came into it with high hopes.

visually stunning but some of the sex scenes were almost as you were watching a porn! don't get me wrong i enjoy sex scenes as much as the next guy but some of them were far to graphic and drew away from the movie. that and then some of the costumes were far to advanced for the time period it was set in, all in all i give it like a 5 or 6

Was I the only one thinking 'ahh, His lord, His highness, Blackboard monitor Vimes has finally hit the big screen?'

But who would play Nobbs & Colon?

JD - special constable of the Ankh-Morpork city watch.

I didn't really want to see it, but my friends insisted I go with them.

First 2/3 of the movie was terrible. It just dragged on, it was all buildup with no suspense. About half way into the movie, I looked at my clock and realized that I wanted to walk out of the movie, would have if I had a way home. In the end where everything came together was ok. It made sense, but it was so anticlimactic, it didn't justify the previous 2 hours. And then after the movie should have ended, they spent 20 minutes tying up loose ends that could have been done in a much shorter time.

My rating: 3.5/10

I'm halfway through the novel at the moment and can't wait to see how it translates into film (even with the bad reviews) wink.gif

big dissappointment. i went into it thinking that it was gonna knock my socks off and all it managed to do was prove that porn is slowly being integrated into mainstream cinema. /cry

That settles things then, I must watch it!

blue penis.... there I said it, why the hell did we have to see it multiple times? It did drag out forever and wandered endlessly

I saw this thing at midnight on Thursday night and it wasn't too bad.

If you've read the book, you'll enjoy it A LOT more than someone who didn't.

The sex scenes...yeah...they were crazy. Usually I don't mind sex in movies as long as it's important and tasteful but...it wasn't. I hated this damn scene and I wanted to throw a bucket of ice-water on the screen just to make it stop.

Blue penis...ah, the blue penis...well, it's in the book so I didn't mind it that much. What I did mind was the fact that every time it appeared on the screen there was a symphony of immature, "ZOMGPENISWTFBBQ?!" from around me. It's a penis. Just don't stare at it, pay attention to the fact that you're listening to a man who can change anything on the planet/universe.

Still, I thought the music was over the top, some acting sequences were far from perfect, and really not worth staying up until 3am to watch.

It gets a 7/10. Good, not great.

I liked it, but I probably would have been lost if I hadn't read it first. The big plan at the end was altered from the novel, although it still ends up accomplishing the same thing (and they made a nod to it on a monitor that said "S.Q.U.I.D."). Without the genetic engineering subplot, though, there was no reason for Bubastis the cat to exist although it was there to be true to the book.

A couple gripes:
Rorschach's killing of the child murderer was a lot more overt in the movie version; in the book it was a kind of ambiguous situation ala the end of Mad Max - it was the same type of scenario.
Silk Spectre II didn't smoke - she was damn near a chain smoker in the book.
Some things had to be pared down, but the movie was already long as it was.

One thing I did like was that Silk Spectre II was a lot more useful in the movie than in the book, and the first sex scene with her and Daniel was fairly realistic for it being a movie scene. "Can you move your arm?" and his, er, issue. The second one was pretty movie standard.

I must say my opinion is probably biased mainly cause I didnt want to see the movie. I'm sure it made a great book and I almost forgot my favorite line.

Silk Spectre II- "I used to be a masked avenger too..."
Cue next scene with her in her costume and...... NO MASK!

Yay for superhero sex and Manhattan's penis... Overall I thought it was a good movie, but have yet to get my hands on the novel.

I thought it was really good. I only read the first two books of the novel but it helped me get into the movie a lot. I'll probably watch it again, probably download it.

Did anyone else think that the title sequence was amazing?

The title sequence was fucking awesome! And it had Bob Dylan playing so you really cant go wrong
