Relationship Between Clouds Size And Flavor

Recommended Posts

OK so I finally am getting my rig dialed in. I've smoke several brand shisha, 2 diff bowls, 4 different coals. I'm finding consistantly that when I have small clouds I get insane flavor. Then if I add some more coal, I can get sick clouds, but I lose that flavor (not Harsh just less flavor than before).

I was wondering, is it possible to have both? Or just find a happy middle gound with the heat management? So far SB has come the closest to having sick flavor with big clouds.

SETUP: I got A KM SSR, Chinese phunnel ( way better than my egytian), CoCosx2< water and Ice in base.

It most definately is. Quality of shisha imo can determine if itll have both.
SB works great for me as well as AF. Your packing could also affect the clouds and taste. Make sure to just follow guide and it sounds like you got all the materials down right. Hole pattern is key as well.

Well, I usually use the same hole pattern for everything and it works well with me.
I have the small tangiers phunnel, I use two rings of holes, one set closest to the middle and the other close to the edge of the bowl..
medium sized holes, I use a toothpick and poke down through the bottom of the shisha.
I never have any problems.

hope this helps smile.gif

I do about 4 rings with just tong poker all over, and i do holes in the middle. I don't poke thru to the bottom. Just my way and I get huge clouds and great taste. Make sure ur coco's are fully lit, u pack ur phunnel full to the top loosly. Do not underpack or pack it too tight. Thats basically it. Make sure u got water level right.

i do two rings around the edge of the bowl, that's pretty much it.. 3 cocos on a medium phunnel, and packing the tobacco semi-loose right up to the brim. full flavor and full smoke most of the time...

hands down best smoke to flavour ration tobacco ive ever had is tangiers. you can basically torch af and itll still give you very good flavor, so if your trying tobaccos that is what i would go with.

as far as a hole pattern goes ive always done three rings of holes. i use just the tip of a toothpick. i see way better results with very small holes.

I'd have to agree with suburbansmoker, Tangiers gives the biggest clouds and flavor I've ever managed to get. I admit to being a tangiers fanboy but I will say I do still smoke other stuff now and then, but you can't get the clouds with the flavor. If you want some extra smoke, add some honey or glycerin, although I've heard it cuts down slightly on overall flavor. Also, in my experience adding ice to the base is going to take away from the flavor, using room temp water always gets me better flavor. Add a few ounces of milk to your water as well, I've heard pro's and cons but I've tried it a few times and it did help the clouds. Just do not leave the hookah, clean it right after or you'll have nasty milk in the base if you don't clean right away! That was not fun to clean.

Aside from that, packing and heat will be the two things to work with for better smoke and flavor, everyone does different hole patterns, I usually poke 3 rings, lots on the outside, fewer in the middle, and then right around my funnel hole I poke 3-6 holes near the middle. I usually don't put a hole in the center since my foil never gets sucked down like some folks. I think that hole really depends on your bowl, if the middle is as high as the outside you may need a hole, if it's lower like I think they should be you're fine with no middle hole.

I agree with suburbansmoker and zyram. Tangiers has awesome flavor and huge clouds when its loaded correctly. putting a little SB in the mix kicks the flavor up a notch as well.

as for holes in the foil, i do 3 rings with a toothpick and one hole in the center. i havent had any problems really. i thinks it all depends on personal preference.

Just because he can not get much flavors, it does not mean that his tobacco sucks.

Your problem is definitely a weird one. Because logically, the more smoke, the more flavor [Well, in my garage at least].

To help keep both smoke and flavor on full blast, you should try changing a few things up, such as the way you pack your bowl. The holes you have in the foil......as mentioned in previous posts. Also, keep rotating the coals to smoke the bowl out evenly and get maximum flavor.

Btw: The tobacco is not your problem here. The way you set-up your bowl is where the problem lies. Try a few different ways of packing, you will eventually get the right one that suits your need. All about trial and error.

If the manufacturer goes heavy towards smoke, the mass flux of the flavor will be high and the flavor will poop out quickly. I balanced Tangiers to provide good endurance, coupled with good endurance flavors. I could go more smoke, less endurance or less smoke more endurance. I think my numbers are pretty good. Its a trade off, like acceleration and gas mileage in cars.

Confidentially, when I make Kashmir Peach for myself, I make it a little more smoke and less endurance than regular.

Tangiers will get ya both huge clouds and insane flavor. People say Lucid BGB is mild, but I can get insane clouds and incredible flavor out of it with very little heat. This is most likely due to Tangiers' heat sensitivity and how a small amount of heat will get it smokin and tastin good. AF and those other cheapo shishas will give good flavor on low heat, but crappy clouds, but bad flavor and huge clouds with higher heat. Nakhla is the exception to the rule, which works a lot like Tangiers, but is a lot less finicky. Good flavor, big clouds, but isn't heat sensitive.

try smoking without any shisha in the bowl or coals. just empty.

You might find the source of your problem lies in lingering flavors.

Windcovers help keep the smoke and flavor up, but can also make for too much heat and less flavor.

All about heat management, it can take some time!

A real Tangiers phunnel can help with the heat management a lot i hear
