Bracus
Not new to Hookah. Recently bought your standard everyday hookah. I am either getting too much smoke or almost none at all. I use 1 coal, no smoke. I use 2, it's great for 5 min then it's too harsh. Can't get it right. Any suggestions? btw i'm using diamonte finger coals. Codename067
Care to give us more detail? What kind of bowl, what tobacco? How are you packing your bowl?Stem should be submerged about 1 inch
MeHT
How would you get "too much" smoke?
Sonthert
Sounds like a too much charcoal/too little tobacco problem. A combination of both, mostly too much heat.

supersubby
i think its a packing issue. and coal issue usually one coal is good enough on a hookah that small..http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=10119those are some really good tips pack it just below the brim and sprinkle it.. joytron
the amount of coals shouldnt change depending on the size of the hokah. Are you keeping the coals on the edge of the bowl? (mya bowls are kinda hard for heat management)

Bye bye now have fun
the only thing that the actual hookah does is possibly restrict airflow
evilded777
In my noob world I have discovered that the easiest way for me to manage heat is to underpack a phunnel bowl. Works awesome for me; also I do break down any quick lites, though I use coco nara's whole (because how the hell would you break one of those bricks?). You can break up any coals this way. I suppose you could use a butter knife or something similar but... why would you?

delSol_si
I'm not all that hookah savvy yet, but I have noticed for me, I usually use two 3kings QLs(will be using chronic hookah QL now that my latest order came in, yay!). Once it is good and lit, I usually rotate the coals around the bowl, then if it gets a bit harsh burning the shisha, I take a coal off and move the one coal to the center of the bowl(using a regular bowl, though I just got a phunnel bowl in the mail, yay again). I then just kinda just use one or two coals and rotate depending on how it is smoking. I also sometimes take both coals off, plug the purge valve, and blow into the hookah to try to cool off the bowl/shisha a bit when it starts getting way too hot, tho I don't know if this is actually a good idea or not.I used to break my coals up, but the fuckers keep on breaking into a million useless pieces and I am tired of wasting coals.
