He Who Cannot Be Named
Hey guys, About 2 months ago I ordered 2 KM's (1 32" Signature Ice for myself and another, cheaper one I cant remember for my dad, I think it might have been a pear one)Here's the kind of base I got:[attachment=3197:KM_Base.jpg]...both had red bases and both bases are now only about 3/4 red as the paint started flaking off the bases the first time they were used. Is this normal for handmade bases or did KM cheap out on me? Also, do you know if the paint they use contains anything toxic like a lead glaze? On the bright side only the red on mine is flaking and the gold filigree is staying put, so I'm thinking of just wiping all the remaining red paint off and I will still have a bad ass looking hookah...just with a clear and gold base instead of a red and gold base. Still a bit miffed that this happened though.
Victim026
You got that one from Hookah Company right? If so that's not a KM base, it's one that HC fitted to it from the stock of bases they carry.

mattarios2
even the km bases, are junk, most of them wobble, almost all of them peel, and then just look like no time has been put into them. Unfortunately from pics I've seen straight from egypt the vases there are top quality, i think they just send us the junk.Shitty km vases have been floating around for a while now. Scoop
there are no KM made vases. they are just stamped for KM by 1 of 2 companies that make them in egypt. i do agree that i think the vases vendors sell with kms are trash.

He Who Cannot Be Named
Hmm...that's too bad, It smokes amazing and everything else about it rocks except for the base. Anyone know a place that sells nice bases that wont do this and will fit a KM stem? =)

cotsi95
About the red flaking off that happens to almost EVERY red egyptian base ive seen. We have 2-3 at the narg that are clear now because all the paint has flaked off.

Don't paint the inside.
Codename067
You can not blame KM for the bases. As mentioned, they do not make their bases, and even if they did, vendors might swap them for cheaper Egyptian vases that have KM stamps on them and sell the higher quality vases as KM bases for more money.Pisses me off but hey, I always get the base that I really want so no problem for me. delSol_si
I got a really good vase with my KM ice I ordered. The paint on it sucks, but it is really durable and thick! I have actually dropped it a foot or two off the ground and no breakage or cracking. The paint is coming off and doesn't look that great, but I personally could care less. I got the whole setup from John, you may see if he still has any, not sure.
Sonthert
Yeah, the newer KM bases are getting worse. That vase is from Caravan, HC buys from Caravan...or used too.If you hold a vase up to the ligt, looking through the neck hole and see that the bottom is clear (like in that red vase), then it is painted and the paint WILL flake off unless you clear coat it or something.
