Okay... Thats It!

I think throwing it in the oven is the worst possible thing to do to try to acclimate it the first time. I usually tell people to put it in the freezer for a day or two if they are having trouble acclimating it (if its dry where they are). because the damp->dry humidity thing is the worst transition. Where dry-> damp is a little better. Ovens are warm and damp. The damp being the problem. You add additional moisture content to the tobacco and are driving it damp-> dry continuously. Also, more volatile flavors will be driven off more strongly in more heat making the flavors/aroma weaker, notably the fruity components of the flavor. BGB does smell a little odd. Some people don't like the aroma or the flavor at all...I guess that's true for any flavor.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Edit: Why would flaming ensue? Its your opinion, other people might disagree with you, but Tangiers or Lucid isn't for everybody.

It could also be the inconsistency of the tobacco.

the tobacco is consistant. believ me i order between 40-70 kilos at a time.

i guess some places just arent good for tangiers. Sorry to hear about you issues.

Lucky =/

I ordered a 3 250g pack from H-S 1 out of 2 didn't smell like bbq sauce .. along with separate orders through out the years. But hey who knows. I just find it odd that some people can smoke it with no problems and other people have problems. Thats kinda like owning a boat in the middle of Texas opposed to living in FL.

well, it smells like something i would want to smoke now, maybe though i could get a little more rasberry flavor for it? make it "RASBERRY REVENGE!" that would rule. ooh... i wonder if i can smoke Kool-Aid.....

The base flavors are harsher than the top flavors, the top flavors being more volatile and likely to boil off. If I sent you more raspberry flavor it would have more top flavor, but more base flavor and it would be more harsh.

Anyone ever try mixing honey or molasses into their bad batches of Tang to see if that helped any? Or maybe ask the Tang guys what they use for flavoring, get some, and add more to the Tang?

I'm starting to think BGB and Raspberry are such a mild flavored shisha that sometimes the tobacco, or something during the processing of the tobacco, overpowers the raspberry flavor/smell. Maybe they just need to add more flavoring to correct this process?

Honey/molasses won't add appreciably to the situation...might make it worse though.

I don't think thats it, I thinks its people expect something different than what it is. How does it smoke is the real test. Some flavors have aromas that are lighter when its dry out.

Mmm.. I don't think so. I have 2 batches of Lucid BGB. The first one, from Hookah-Shisha, smelt like soy sauce and BBQ sauce. Kind of a sweet smell, but really it was stinky stuff. Smelt burnt.

I got a second batch straight from Tangiers when they heard my first batch was so gross. This second batch smelt right. Smelt sweet. No soy sauce smell. Smoked great.

Now, I'll admit, the first batch smokes fine and smells fine while smoking. But right out of the bag it smells fowl. So, I dunno..

Anyone have a bad batch that smoked bad? That's really what we need to find out. If it actually SMOKES bad, not just smells bad. Somebody with Tang experience, smoke a bad batch, then smoke a good batch, and compare. If it's just smelly, then there's really nothing wrong with it.

i have not had experience with lucid but i have had plenty with original.

I would think the lucid would adjust easier though.

i have been ordering tangiers for probably 2 years now?

i usually smoke it right when i get it, no matter what time of the year it is.

just got some more k-peach and it is cold as fuck outside.

was still cold when i got home and i'm smoking it just fine now...

it's weird to me that some people have so much trouble on several occasions and others have none. even if they are in the same area with very similar climates.

well i think it depends, when i used to buy tang, it would come in the mail and smell like straight shit, i waited, i waited, and ummm ... i waited, and it never stopped smelling like shit, with the acceptance of a couple flavors, so my take is awesome shisha if it cooperates with you, but if it doesn't move on b/c it isn't the end of the world. Tang isn't and CAN'T be for everyone.

If you get it in the mail and it is good 2 go, then lucky you.

I actually did try smoking it when it came in and smelt like shit, (they all smelt funny, so i was like ahh what the heck lets try it) and damn it was bad.

So there are definitely some weird variables that change the situation for people.

I've never seen that here and we use a lot of our own tobacco and we check it frequently, each bin to make sure it smells and looks right...maybe it does have to do with smoking conditions, variable weather, etc.

I'm having nothing but trouble with acclimation in winter time here in Norway. Both regular and lucid smokes great in the summer, but really crappy in the winter, even with several days of acclimation. Really sad, because it's my favorite baccy.

Just throwing it out there that BGB is the ONLY Tangiers flavor I have had trouble acclimating. I have nothing but love for Tangiers, but for some reason I can't get BGB to work for me. I'm not mad, as one wonky flavor out of the many I have tried and loved is a really good percentage.
