Scalliwag
I finally got a sample of hose material that I think is excellent. Extremely durable and washable (nylon) plus I may be able to put a couple of retired/disabled guys to work on making ends. Watch the vid and see what you think. I have to get back to the herb project but I had to stop long nough to post this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpQG6bEisTI
indian_villager
Scalli I have been looking for similar material forever.....The closest thing I could find was nylon vacuum lines from mcmaster for like $100 and that was too rich for my blood. If you could pm me regarding the specs that would be great. I have had these plans for a custom hose forever but could not find appropriate tubing. Alqoshnia1
I'd really hate to burst your bubble there Scalli cause you've been on an inventive roll. Hookah Shisha Central already sell these kinda hoses. I think you can probably one-up them with the custom handles cause their handles are plastic. I actually have two of these and would def recommend the material if you're not really looking for the traditional loooking hose.http://www.hookah-shisha.com/store/pc/view...p;idproduct=

I think they went on the cheap and used the poly material like the common loom material. This costs more and I have to get it in 1000' spools.QUOTE (SimplexCoda @ Mar 13 2009, 08:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Im pretty sure that the hoses on HS are plastic and the ones scalli is looking making are nylon which is far less brittle.Good catch on that Codeman!!! I don't want to put out something that people think of as cheap or junk so I'd never consider a poly material. Also I want to have hose covers made. I am looking for retired/disabled folks for that as well. That may come across sounding like I'm wanting to get it done on the cheap but that's not the case. This happens to be an excellent opportunity for someone with limited mobility to be productive and have a source of income. To be honest it was not on my mind when I first started looking. Last night when on the thread about making a mouth piece it reminded me I needed to find someone to make ends for the hose project in case the material was suitable. So I did a search on Cragslist to see if I could find a local person to make handles and I ran into this http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/tls/1070012054.html and I also found a retired guy. The first guy was looking for a smaller lathe because his area is too small for the one he has and mentioned he was disabled. That's how that clicked! My wife's oldest brother had a major stroke from high blood pressure and lived the next 15 years paralyzed on one side in a nursing home and passed away last year. I knew him since I was 16.Suffice it to say that I have a real soft spot for disabled people and know they want to be productive and have very limited opportunity. So as soon as I saw the guy's Craigslist ad Jim alot of memories of Jim came back. He was a funny SOB so lots of great ones.I got to get back at the herb stuff but needed a breather. Boricua
Just wondering: what would be the biggest benefit of getting a hose made from this material vs a Nammor, etc?
Scalliwag
QUOTE (Zinite @ Mar 13 2009, 09:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>At a decent price, I'm in for 3.Ugggh, I never got back to the herb tonite. That is going well so I am kicking back and going through email. I had not heard back from the lathe guy so I emailed him again in case he thought I was a flake and may have thought this was NHT related or something. It turns out he did not get the email. Maybe Craiglist blocked it because pics were attached and links? So I shot him a simple "did you get my response to your ad?" and he emailed back he hadn't.So I sent him the info again and this time straight to his email addy instead of the craigslist filtered email. Now I'm waiting to talk to the guy. As far as price it will depend on what he charges and the type of woods used. Basic should be real cheap. But for shit I like suck as CocoBolo or Zebrawood and others the price will be more. I'm gonna link him to here so he can chime in on this. He needs the money more than I do so I'm okay with him seeing the numbers and knowing he's not getting taken advantage of. That is pretty important to me.That is why I'm not a very good businessman, used car salesman, or pirate for that matter!!! I'm not a real pirate, I just play one on Youtube and when the ol lady wants to get freaky, but that's another story I will spare you guys on! ARRRRRR!!! The guy lives in the same area as me so I can pick up materials and deliver to him and cover him so he is not out of pocket. Personalized engravings would be cool as well. Lame answer I know but I guess I just hope it's better and better bang for the buck.WOOT!!!! This just in! Larry the Pen Guy (no relation to the Cable Guy that I know of) just emailed back that he is interested and will call me tomorrow! He also emailed a pic of his work and by the looks it is safe to say this guy has some serious skills!!!!I am really excited now! I gave him a link to the thread too. Check this shit out! This is a black/white ebony wood. That is not something I've seen before. He said it looks like different species of woods I guess in the same blank. He will be able to show us all some cool stuff guys! So let's be on our best behavior until he gets used to us and then we can treat him like the reast of the family! Scalliwag
BTW I *think* the blocks of wood to the right in his pic are purpleheart. That is wicked looking stuff. Here is what I think that is at least...

As far as the whistle it's because the corrugated ridges inside the tubing create a disruption in the airflow thus creating a harmonic effect.... He looked on the thread and said I was right about the purpleheart He said the other stack is Padauk, I've never heard of that. He also has some birdseye maple which I have seen and that is gorgeous stuff. I have a friend with a guitar with the body made of that. Well, Shiner is making me sleepy so I'm hanging up the boots tonite. Tomorrow more messing with herb and talking to Larry and just trying to make the best of the day ya know? erufiku
Awesome news! I really hope everything clicks and this will be available for purchase.I'm quite sick of 'washable' hoses like Nammors and Razans that you're not actually supposed to wash cause they'll fall apart on you

Sonthert
If I may say so, Scalliwag, the reason that the U.S.A. is the greatest country in the world is because of people like you. If you need a distributer, I know this guy who runs Tangiers and distributes some product lines. Let me know.

If you need a distributer, I know this guy who runs Tangiers and distributes some product lines. Let me know. Wow! Coming from one of the folks I idolize that is a helluva nice compliment so mooey ARRRRR!!! Those words definately apply to you my friend.I will keep that in mind. Tarik has become a good bud so if this particular product gets distributed I will bounce it off him. To get the business kicked off we will do some direct sales and kind of go from there. If Larry can handle shipping from his house for now I got a game plan.Since so many pieces will be unique I think we should make a site with a gallery and as each piece sells have it drop off the page or show "sold". I have seen art sites setup similar. We will probably at least keep the exotics in that environment. Larry mentioned other materials like acrylics. Anything like that which does not have much variance between pieces would be good candidates for distribution. For now I have to get a big roll ordered and sent to my buddies shop so it don't sit on my porch I definately want to get one in your hands Eric!!! Maybe if you give it a fair and honest review I can call it a promotional expense and write it off? I know you'd be honest or you would not say nothing at all but so you know if you thought it sucked I'd expect you yo say so.
