Woodsytheowl
Has anyone tried wrapping their charcoals in foil after lighting them? It seemed effective as to keeping the bowl cleaner and smoked pretty well. I'm interested because it seems like a potentially good technique as to minimizing the taste of QLs. willbb123
Completly wrapped? How do the get air to stay lit?
Canon
ive thought about it, its not a bad idea if you can keep the coals lit but i dont want to go through the trouble. plus you would be wasting more coal because the heat has to go through the foil. clickhea
just dont bother poking holes in the foil over the bowl
SilentBob
i could see this working well if you didnt completely close the foil on top, that way it still got air. i'll have to try this later tonight

Codename067
That makes no sense. The Coals needs a constant supply of air to keep itself on..as soon as you cut air circulation, the coals will go black.Prime example are Flat coals, such as Cocos and Exoticas. The bottom end almost always turn black because it gets very minimal amount of air at the bottom, and you must flip them constantly to keep the entire coal lit at all times. Namenone
So its not worth trying to cover most of a QL tablet with foil?
SuburbanSmoker
If im understanding this correctly the question is "would you wrap QL in foil and place it on the bowl so as to minimize taste of said QL" Well if you are completely wrapping it, you woiuld achieve this because there would be no taste at all due to the coal being extinguished. When i first read this i thought you meant wrapping the bowl like if you were using a wind cover. I dont see how this method would really work. next time you go to this bar bring a camera and take some pictures. im quite intrigued.

chromecarz00
Longues replace coals frequently. Tried it before, it works but theres a lot of mantinence, like code said. If you MUST try it, make a homemade windcover out of it and give it air flow, eg a cone with an open head and some holes in the side.Same principle, excpet not applied as well. ryno
There was someone that made a windcover out of foil, and had a layer of foil above the bowl and had the coals on that
Namenone
Ohhh now i understand! I thought OP ment wrapping each coal individually, Yeah ive made windcovers out of foil before. make sure you create a LOT of airflow. and i mean ALOT! else you will get some weird ass taste!
