Windcover And Taste

Recommended Posts

SO I was noticing yesterday that there is a distinct taste when I use the windcover as opposed to not using it. It does make sense since I'm drawing in the air from the coal as opposed to clean air. Even if I take a pull with the WC on then take it off I can taste the Difference.

Does anyone else notice this?

Heres my setup: KM SSR, phunnel, Cocos or 3k's (both noticable taste), SB shisha

I've been noticing this as well, even with the coco naras it gets a little bit of a smokey taste. Somethings i do the double foil method with a ring between the layers, and i don't really notice it then. But those use two different metods for burning shisha, so it may have something to do with that.

I had this happen to me last night and I think (grain of salt) it has more to do with the temperature rising than the theory you have. I know a windcover cuts down exposure to the air but I can't see that having an affect on how much oxygen is sucked down into the pipe since there are holes all over and a large hole in the top.

You get more of a coal taste because you are raising the temperature of the air around the bowl. makes it alot easier to burn the tobacco. I only use my windcover when starting a bowl, trying to salvage some extra time out of a set of coals, and when its really windy on nice days.

happens to me too, but not for long.

if it only last a few hits or so then it's because the tobacco is getting adjusted.

if it keeps doing it, you probably should have waited on the WC.

if it happens all the time every time for a long time. clean windcover out really good

I think windcovers just accentuate the heat by about 25% or so, which is going to effect the flavor.

Unless your windcover is like a decade old and giving off fumes or something silly.

Ok I'm gonna try and aswer everyone questions.. I usually use 2 coco's or 3k's on my bowl (small chinese phunnel) IDK if heat could be the culprite.
My windcover is brand new, about a month old. It is very simple, the one with the little stars on it (picture in my gallery).

Now on another note, I usually start my bowl and slap the WC on it right away ( I smoke outside) I do notice that once I get that funny taste it never really goes away> Is it possible I'm burning the shisha? Shouldnt this go away if I remove 1 of the coals? Cuz it doesnt..

you may be burning the bowl to the point where it can't recover. What kind of shisha are you using? when using cocos and 3k, crack the cocos in half or crack the 3k in half or 1/4th's

Add 1 or 2 pieces of either coal (whatever you are using) and puff for a little bit, slowly add more and more until you reach the flavor and clouds you enjoy. Only use the windcover to start the bowl (once you know how many pieces of coal you need) and also when the coals start to die, again once you know your setup.

Once your session is going well wait till the coals shrink, then throw the cover on, if you still get the taste, you know it isn't you burning the shisha, and it is def the wind cover.
