PSKmustang
So I received my red amoura KM last week. I ordered red (the other options are white, blue, green). When I received it, the pear is orange. My fiancee asked me why I ordered orange, so it's not even close to looking like red.So does anyone have any suggestions on painting the pear to red (or if you think it would be better/easier black is the only other color I care to have it).By the way, the hookah smokes great, no complaints in that department. Just wanted a red pear, so this is only an aesthetic issue.
mitchard
I would assume model paint or something along those lines would work fine. What is the pear made of?
PSKmustang
I want to say plastic, but it feels more brittle if that makes sense. It feels like if I were to smash it, it would break into pieces so I'm not 100% sure. It's got a semi-gloss to it too.

ryno
I'd suggest Krylon Fusion
ilikemyusername
cut the pear out and make another out of clay.
SuburbanSmoker
it would be easy to soft sand itthen just paint it red and do a gloss overcoat.

PSKmustang
Just got home, later than I anticipated. I think I am going to try the sanding option with Krylon paint. I will let everyone know how it goes... hopefully I don't ruin it : /Thanks for all the opinions and ideas by the way.
Victim026
Yeah just make sure you do like 3 or 4 different grades of sandpaper from roughest to finest, a coat or two of primer wouldn't hurt, then 2 or 3 layers of Krylon Fusion would do the job. Tom1
Just contact the vendor you bought it from. They do make orange peared hookah's so it was probably just a mix-up. If you must paint it though just make sure you tape everything up good. Fusion won't really need sandpaper imo unless you're planning on using your stem as a hammer/night stick. When it bonds it actually melts the plastic a little bit for a good hold but that's your call.
Rani
Men.....Nail polish, silly guys. It will bond to the acrylic of the pear (yep, I've got one too), you can remove anything off the metal with a remover and red nail polish comes in about a thousand different reds one of which will match your base. It can also be either sheer or opaque depending on the brand and color and it will be very glossy or metallic again depending on the brand and color. Victim026
I think you've got a better chance of an even coat with light spraypaint layers, so I would stick with that, but that's just what I would do.
ilikemyusername
personally, i'd leave it alone, or send it back, if the pear is like the one in my MZ it will have detail and shininess, almost a "dichro" appearance when the light hits it, spraypaint won't have the depth of color as the original pear, unless you do several layers of clear over it, but all the clears i've seen in cans are crap.but i suppose if you must, the way i'd do it is;spray it whatever color, then a layer of clear, a layer of pearlescent and 4 or 5 layers of clear, then a polishing to smooth everything out.thats just how i'd do it, i paint. Zinite
+1 for Krylon Fusion. If I remember correctly, it has Methyl Ethyl Ketone, which is a solvent like Acetone, so it pretty much melts the paint into the plastic surface.Sand it down really well, tape off the metal part just for kicks, and do two or three coats.
