Nakhla Tips?

Recommended Posts

I got Nakhla in the phunnel, overpacked and packed tightly, foil cover, 3 rings of holes poked down to the bottom of the bowl, 2 red hot cocos, and it's smokin nicely. But I got a few questions:

1. How long do you guys usually let Nakhla sit before taking the first pull?

2. How many coals are normally used for Nakhla?

3. Any tips and tricks to make Nakhla smoke amazingly?

Like I said, it's smokin good, but any tips would be appreciated. smile.gif

1. I don't.

2. I use 2 Coconara or the equivalent

3. Use tiny holes, I use the 3 ring method. I do not over-pack, but it works either way apparently. I use a mod in my phunnel. I make sure I rotate the coals at a constant pace, burning Nakhla is the worst!

Yeah, my hole puncher is a needle attached to a wooden dowel. Makes pretty small, tack-sized holes. I'd use a tack, but tacks aren't long enough to reach the bottom. Plus I lose them in the carpet and find them later with my foot. ohmy.gif

1. Not at all, I put the coals on and the only down time is however long it takes me to get the hose to my lips.

2. 3 coco's in a triangle pattern. This stuff doesn't like to burn so you can be a little cavalier with heat, at least, I am. haha

3. I just use 2 circles of 16 holes with a four hole diamond in between those rings, works great. Don't be afraid to pack it looser for Mizo, tighter for regular. A touch of glycerine added to the shisha while it's out on the foil will work, just mix it. You don't want to put too much or you risk hurting the flavor. Try 4-6 drops per bowl. It won't be a lot but it will help get some clouds.

This stuff is easy to smoke once you figure out how to get the thunderclouds out of it. And yes, Nakhla does give off clouds. You just have to get it to give them to you. wink.gif

Good luck!

I dumped the stuff I was smoking back into the tub, mixed it up, then pulled some out and mixed it together with 8 drops of glycerine. Then packed the bowl nice and tight again.

I'm waiting for the cocos to heat up. It'll take 10 min or so. Can't wait. ohmy.gif

Pack tight but not as tight and overpacked as Tangiers, sounds like you're already good since you took some out.

Good Luck!

Can't say that it's giving me huge clouds, but it seems to enhance the flavor some. Or maybe I just packed the bowl better this time. *shrug* laugh.gif

May not have been enough - try about 1/4-1/3 tsp. of glycerine per bowl and mix it thoroughly. I'm not sure how many "drops" that is. I generally only do it with zag (aka the pussy way), but it does enhance the smoke production, especially if your box of nakhla came in a little on the dry side.

1. Varies, I usually go off and do something while the coals are sitting on the bowl. Make iced tea, grab some ice cream, check the forums, put away my hookah stuff, etc.

2. I did 3 canarys on my small phunnel and added a 4th about 10 minutes in.

3. More heat? I was smoking Sweet Melon 2 days ago and it was going good with 3 coals, good flavor/smoke. But, I had light another coal just because and didn't want to waste it. So, I set it on the bowl and I was in heaven. Not harsh, loads of flavor and big smoke.

I'm going to try it with my Nakhla and see if it makes a difference. I did add glycerine to my Fusion CP, but didn't notice an exponential increase in smoke...maybe I just didn't add enough. It was about 1/2tsp of glycerine and a drop honey for about 15-20g of shisha.

i did notice every once in a while, i got a slighty soap tinge on a draw.

make sure you are using food grade, food grade gives off no soap taste.

As for the OP. I add 6 - 8 tsp depending on how dry it is to 250g. Mix it all up real good and let sit for a bit. Just take a huge handful of it or use a massive spoon and drop it on top of the phunnel, just distribute it evenly left to right without pushing it up or down, make it so it is just barely over the edge of the bowl, then use ur palm to pack it down, take a toothpick clear out the spot for the phunnel hole, foil, and do any size holes you like.

On my mini i use 2 cocos broken into halves so i have 4 halves total.

On my egyptian i use 1.5 cocos or 3 halves.

So for a small i would think 2 cocos in 4 halves would work just fine, just might have to slap the windcover on a little earlier than i would with my mini.

I'm thinking your nak is a bit too dry still and using whole cocos is somewhat burning the shisha causing you to lose flavor. Nakhla loves heat but if its really dry it is gonna kill your session .

Shouldn't be hard to get it right, nakhla is one of the easiest to get going good, but when you do get it going nicely, you will know it for sure.
