Flavor Discovery

Recommended Posts

So today I decided to smoke a bowl of my Sweet Melon Nakhla, but I hadn't added anything to moisten it yet and the people I was smoking with were into thick smoke. So I go down, heat up some honey and dump a bunch into the batch. Not really thinking about the ratio I was going for. Long story short I added a lot more than I intended. But the results were WONDERFUL. It was about 2-2 1/2 table spoons of honey for less than 250 grams and the flavor of the honey mixed with the flavor of the melon forming... Hold on to your socks.... Honeydew Melon. Seriously, this was a mindblowing accident. It tasted Identical to honeydew, and the clouds were fantastic, tastiest nakhla bowl I have had in a while. I suggest anyone with some sweet melon laying around (which should be everyone as far as I'm concerned) should give this a shot, it really is impressive.

Wow.... Interesting and definitely worth a try, because in my opinion, Nakla makes the very best sweet melon out there. Some girlfriends and I were smoking it at my place one night and they were trying to leave and kept coming back for another taste. It's that good.

How do you mix in the honey? You heat it up, and then just mix if with the tobacco? Can you use any kind of honey?

Just wondering, want to try this myself, but I'm afraid I'll just screw up my shisha.

What I did was heat up the honey (its actually not brandname honey, a friend of mine has a hive so he gives me the all natural stuff, mmmmm) in the microwave for about 30 seconds to get it more liquidy, from there I just dumped the shisha and the honey onto a piece of tinfoil and mixed it with my hands for a good 5 minutes. I smoked it as I normally would and got great flavor. I'm going to do another bowl tonight, maybe see if I can make it better, then I will post back here.

So you mixed it with all of your sweet melon, then put the resulting mix back in the container? Or did you just take out the amount of tobacco you were going to use for that specific session and mixed it with some honey?

Thanks, will try this out in a couple of days.

Yesterday I fired up a phunnel of tangiers lucid mint and the sweet melon. It was glorious. I packed the mint down in the bottom and a layer of sweet melon on top. The nakhla took the brunt of the heat, and the lucid helped with the smoke content. It's the wife's new favorite.

Rule of thumb.. make your shisha as wet as Tangiers, or even wetter, and it'll be good stuff. Use whatever. Honey, Agave, Glycerine, Molasses.. maybe even coffee syrups (the NON-sweetened kind!). I've dumped a ton of honey into shisha before and it was good stuff. Let it sit around in the tub for a week or so and the honey and shisha should have bonded together and become good friends. wink.gif

Well, I had an interesting event pop up at the market the other day. They are now selling kilos of Sweet Melon for 26 bucks. Also: banana and cherry. All I'm sure are as wet as the double apple I got, which is EXTREMELY wet for Nakhla. If anyone wants to throw down for the cost of shipping plus the cost of the tobacco, I'll purchase a kilo for you.
