qazxcv
Hey everyone I got a really nice brass stem, was excited to smoke from it. It's really nice, big opening for the port and inside the stem, so the pull was very easy. I just have one problem. It tastes like crap. It's a metal taste from the brass. There is no rust I inspected it carefully, and the thing is new, so there shouldn't be a problem.. I smoked it and it gave me nausea, there was a faint taste from the AF mint and Nakhla double apple but had to stop because of the bad taste, and no it's not a packing issue because I tried the same head on another stem..I cleaned it well with a brush and dish soap, same result. So I filled the thing with bicarbonate powder, then poured vinegar in it, and it splashed everywhere in my kitchen, then cleaned again with vinegar but there's still the brass taste.Do I have to use it a few times before this stops? Anyone else have experience with this? Please help !

Sonthert
Does your hose have a metal tip? If so, I would guess its the hose (especially if its a new hose). I've had dozens of brass hookahs, without any problem or break-in period.

inino
more than likely its in the hose, i get that sometimes too. The flavor of rust should not make it all the way through the hookah and through the smoke. Do you taste it just on the tip of your tongue or in your whole mouth? make sure the hookah is all dry before you put the bowl and hose on. and last but not least, never wash your hose, unless its a washable hose. ilikemyusername
i was just thinking oil the stem, and coat that brass, its not going to hurt, and it should mask the flavor.
Voski
Get some lemon juice and baking soda in there it should start fizzing so cover the ends and mix it up. Try it in the hose ports too.
qazxcv
Little update, so if anyone has the same problem, he can read this thread:after a few smoking sessions with AF mint and AF DA, the metal taste is gone! After all the washing I talked about in my first post, I decided to keep the same water in the vase for 5-6 sessions, and the taste is now gone, and the hookah doesn't smell like a metal-new-hookah smell like before! Thanks for the help everyone.
