theophylaktos
I'm looking to buy a new hookah. Right now I've been using my 28" Ballerina w/3 hoses. I plan on now using the Ballerina for when my friends come over for a party smoke. But I want a personal one, single hose and great quality. I don't want something too expensive, something below 300. A medium to large sized that will give me a great smooth smoke and that looks nice as well. Any ideas would be great and I would appreciate it. Mndgame
I bought a KM a few weeks back and wasn't at all impressed with the quality. Questionable welding in more than one space and the base is not flat. Also the stem grommet is way too tight and needed sanding + olive oil to fit on. The base has a few imperfections on the painting which is expected, I guess. Not a defect but annoying is how the tray sits, ash can fall through since it is not attached. It hits pretty good now that I have worked out all of the original problems, though. I'd recommend buying a windscreen to go with it, a very worthwhile investment (Not the windscreen bowl). I'm sure others can attest to questionable quality of KM. If it matters mine was a 32'' exotica I think.
theophylaktos
I'm not set on a KM im just looking for a few different options to look into rather than one brand over another. Aestetics is not majorly important im more looking for a great smoke and good quality pipe. Edited March 30, 2009 by theophylaktos
mattarios2
the km vases are junk, and yes the welds aren't awesome (except on certain models) but who cares, as long as the inside of the pipe is smooth and not damaged, all those inconsistencies come with a hand made pipe, if you don't appreciate it, just sell it, but i would replace the vase, cuz a wobbly vase sucks, and yeah they are for sure junk.If you want something perfect in terms of aesthetics, get a mya. mitchard
My vase wasn't wobbly at all. Either way, slapping a vase protector on there should stop any kind of slight wobble you may get.

I was kinda pissed with the poor quality at first, but then smoked it and could really give a fuck now. I am constantly getting compliments with how well it smokes. And, as many of the people on this forum will tell you, the only part that is probably actually KM is the stem and ash tray. I agree, the grommets that came with mine were shit, but I think they are all just universal. And about the vase grommet, I had a hard time with it at first, but you really just gotta use it, it will loosen up after some use and work perfect. I would NOT suggest sanding it or putting oil on it, you will probably be disappointed in the future when it doesn't seal anymore. If you can't get it to fit, just put some muscle into it, put water on it at most. I think I remember NoB putting oil or some shit on his and later found out that it wasn't sealing well because he had done so.Anyway, for a good quality(smoke wise) hookah, I would suggest a KM as well. Their quality(build) doesn't seem to be as good as people claim the older ones to be, but they smoke hella good!!! Just make sure you take good care of it!! Maybe try the KM exotica or exotica jr.? Maybe the SSR? Not sure if you can get an ice for a decent price anymore as John has sold out last I checked. If aesthetics came first, then nobody would still be making corncob pipes, and a traditional pipe smoker can tell you how nice those are (including myself..I own more cobs than I own briar pipes). Giant Ninja Robot
I have a 36" Amoura and it's pretty awesome, you can get them with one acrylic pear insert or 2, triple pears exist but are hard to find, and they come in many colors.I also have an all brass 29" KM Zahirah which unfortunately I haven't seen any of since I bought mine last Fall, but if you can find a brass or plated brass KM, which trimetal KMs are, they're SUPER heavy and sturdy. You should also look into Nour brand Syrian pipes, great quality from what everyone says, also "handmade", the only difference I've heard of from KMs is a slightly more restricted pull.MOST IMPORTANTLY a new shipment of KMs just came in and HookahCompany.com should have a buncha new stuff up on their site soon, it might behoove you to wait a little bit longer to see some more options just in case you bite now and see something you fall in love with later on. Also, quality of the vase I guess is somewhat of an aesthetic quality but if you're hookah doesn't sit upright, it is pretty unsafe and effects the overall experience of smoking. My hookah smokes great now after some JB weld to fix about 5 holes in welding around the hose and purge valves. I think most hookahs are going to smoke well if you re-weld all of the seals. Overall I still like the hookah since it smokes well after some modifications, I just expected more since they are so highly rated and considered premium hookahs. I was just trying to get the point across that KM quality has gone down, but still smoke good. Just wanted him to be aware or the additional care he is going to have to give the KM to keep it working well. Btw, mine only had 1 tiny hole in the weld on the hose port, but it sealed itself somehow after the first few smokes, not sure how, but I'm glad. Mine is airtight, I can just tell it won't last forever and you can see plenty of flaws when you look at it up close. Plus I, if you read my review I posted, I was having a bit of rusting issues(part turned out to be corrosion).
