The main mechanism, as my theories go, and the research I've done, is that maasel "smokes" from the bowl being hot, not having the charcoal on top. The pattern of your holes will increase the oxygen in a given area and create more ash collection/scorching, but not necessarily do anything to how the bowl smokes. I've developed a new device/attachment that completely tilts the concepts upside down and proves my point, but I want to apply for my patent first, then I'll share it with you all. Try this: Pack a bowl, normally, put foil over the top of it, normally, and poke holes in a "normal" fashion, but only on the left or right half of the bowl, smoke it and see what the cooking looks like then. Remember, ash falling through the holes will make the tobacco looks slightly blacker than it reallgot that patent yet? i'm still interested in this.

Not to burst your bubble- but we've known this for a while. People have tried similar experiments (ie. Only setting the coal on one portion of the bowl and never rotating it- the result was entirely black ma'assel throughout.)Fyi- Electric bowl "heaters" are already on the market. However, from what I've heard they are expensive and extremely difficult to manage during the session.

Electric? I though battery operated would be easier! I've been wanting to send you one to try out, Hookah Duck, but I was wondering if you had access to a variable phase 440V power supply to test it out. Seriously, I have a package of free stuff, including the new thingamajig, just send me a PM with your address again.

How much current would it need to draw?
