Cleaning My Hookah Made It Worse!

Recommended Posts

right so i have a mya artoo, with 2 extra hose adaptors WITH ball bearings.

i took everything apart, inc the ball bearings and put allt he metal bits into boiliung hot water for 30 mins, with lemon washign up liquid.

i then took the parts out let then dry and scrubbed them.

now the hookah pulls SO much easiry BUT it is pulling AIR, and not smoke, as there is less smoke than before.

what can i do?

first thing i was going to suggest was heat management...maybe there's not enough heat to get the smoke. but, other than that...make sure your ball bearing is sitting right. maybe there's gunk that is propping it up.

just gotta start from the basics and check your seals...if everything is good, then it's probably your packing or heat.

assemble the hookah, everything but the bowl.

then take a pull with your thumb covering the bowl hole.

if you cant pull then its your heat management. if you can pull, try covering up the hose ports one at a time to see if its one of them leaking.

report back with results.

cheers will try tomrow and report back smile.gif

(already this is much more helpfull than the live help of hookah-shisha biggrin.gif

If you have a purge valve, replace the metal bearing with a plastic bb. This made a WORLD of difference for me. Also, scrape the corrosion from the valve itself.

Yep....a crucial item for hookah is pipe cleaners...at least in my opinion. Get the kind with scrubbers on them (can get them at a tobacconist's for under $2 a pack)...those are great for cleaning out purge valves, hose ports and the like.

I don't soak mine, since the only place I could do it is the tube (tiny sinks)...and that's kinda gross...so I rely on scrubbing and attention to detail to keep my gear clean.

Another tip....a medium vase can be easily cleaned with the brush from the Camelbak cleaning kits...that brush is far superior to the brush that came with my hookah in both bristle stiffness and density...and doesn't stink the hookah up either.

See if there's an air leak...if the seals check out fine, consider looking at how other users here light their bowls. SOmetimes a picture is worth more than a thousand threads smile.gif Edited by mustang_steve

huh????

LMFAO hahhahaha dude don't you know?

Sham Wow! It's a towel, it's a shammy, it's a sponge, it sells itself

Is it just me, or does that guy look like some trailer trash hard ass wannabe possibly drug addict who can't stay out of trouble with no life they picked up off the street and tried to clean up? I am not trying to be mean, be he just looks like and gives off that persona. I also have never understood why they feel the need for him to wear a headset during a commercial...looks tacky and gives off the idea that he feels he has better things to do than tell me about the shammy which defeats the purpose of a commercial.

Without Punnel but WIITH Hose adaptors:
very little draw of air.

With Phunnel but NO Hose Adaptors:
Very little draw fo air.

With Phunnel & Hose adaptors:
little draw of air.

MY nomral shisha session:

Starbuzz blue mist mixed with AF Golden Strawberry
2 Layers of foil with 4 rings and no middle hole.
2x 33mm 3King Coals.
1/2 ice, 1/4 water, 1/4 semiskimmed milk in the bottom.

my 3 hoses are 2 nammor and 1 OG mya.

before i cleaned it would produce thunderuse clouds, now it produecs mayeb HALF of those clouds. if i put one more coal, the clouds are still half the size but double the harsh!.

clean it out.. you soaked it with lemon then didnt wash the lemon out.

look through the stem and see if you can see light on the other side and make sure you actually put the ball bearings back in.

assemble the hookah after you have done all of this, put an empty bowl on top and cover the bowl with your hand while you suck on the hose. if you get air you have a leak somewhere.

as far as heat management goes, sometimes when i am smoking i get little smoke with alot of harshness to it, this is because the little smoke that is burning is burning too hot. what you need to do is add another coal and move the original coal to another spot. this will produce more smoke and reduce the harshness. if the added coal is too big then you should get 2-3 pulls before it gets harsh again. if that happens then take off the bowl and blow through the smaller hole to cool the tobacco down. then put the coals back on normally
