My new Hookah

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a new hookah from Hookah Shisha Central. I got the Pharaoh 1 hosed with the Green Painted Glass and Green Cobra Hose.  I also ordered a 50g. pack of Romman Double and Sweet Melon.  I also purchased (2) 250g. jars of double apple from al fakher. I paid $100 for it w/out shipping. Did I get a good deal and will I be getting good smoke from this setup with a screen/windcover and three kings charcol with ice water? Thanks for the comments and any suggestions to get better smoke or better purchases of flavors from H-S-C will be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures once I get it in a few days.

I really like Hookah-Shisha Central. They also have a great EBay store too. Keep that in mind for future ordering.I have yet to order from Social Smoke, but the discount really helps and I'm sure I will be soon enough. :)

Well...first off welcome to the forum! from what you've described above you should be getting a good smoke as long as you manage your heat and dont burn the ma'ssell....from what i understand (but cant attest to based on personal experience because ive only used golden quicklites) people say that you get a better flavor from naturals...but this argument is up for debate....its all in what YOU like. ive used the silver japanese and found them to provide for a good smoke once i got them going but you need a stove or butane lighter to do so...but if thats convenient then give them a shot..well happy smoking!

FOIL FOIL FOIL FOIL FOIL!!FORGET WHAT OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU TRUST YOUR LEADER, THE DON! - FOIL ALL THE WAY! ...or you would always fall for there trap to lure you into using a a screen. try both. see what you like best! - and then keep at it!and japanese coals are the best! - the ones i have a just 1 'Brick' instead of 3 stuck together. and they are by FAR the best coals ever. they dont take ASLONG as natural coals, and arent as quick as quick lights.but there powerful and very long lasting!fahim

haha i sense a lil bias with the don above....but yea try both and see what you like..to start off though id go with foil..IMO its a lil bit easier to manage and is a lil less forgiving...but if you asked 50 people what they prefer out of a screen or foil...id bet itd probably be a 30/20 ratio in favor of the foil....i have no basis for that claim just an opinioi again..but there both widely used and liked so just try them both and see what works for you.

I have tried both.  A screen came with my hookah when i bought it.  The problem I had with it was cleaning it was a pain in the a$$.  Then I started to use foil.  I got a better smoke from it and I do not have to worry about cleaning it, I just throw it away

WOW! This is one beatiful hookah. I will post pics later today.  Tried it out last night. Romman Sweet Melon is to die for.  Had the taste of melon for about an hour and a half. So smooth, I didn't even move the coals, just added new ones to the same spots.  As for Romman Double Apple, it is horrible. I got no flavor out of it, with very poor smoke, and I had it set up just like I hade the melon set up............. So whatever anyone says DO NOT GET ROMMAN DOUBLE APPLE IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!  I look forward to trying out AL Fakher Double today. Again thanks for all the help everybody.

  • 5 months later...
I started off using a screen (because it came with the hookah); after I started cruising this forum though, I started experimenting with foil. I quickly decided that foil worked better for me. The "it takes too much time to prepare foil" line is utter bullshit; I wrap the bowl and punch the holes (at least 25 in most cases) in < 2 minutes. I have had fewer issues with harsh smoke now and like someone else said, much easier to clean up. My original screen got pretty grungy after a couple of months and was nearly impossible to clean properly.I ended up breaking my original Egyptian bowl and replaced with one of the original large Tangiers heads; the screen didn't fit so I was forced to go 100% foil. I certainly don't regeret it.As far as coals go, the 3 Kings (I've used both 33mm and 40mm) are extremely to use and don't impart a flavor to the tobacco as long as you let the coating burn off before placing on top of the bowl. They burn pretty hot though so don't always work that well with sensitive tobacco like Tangiers. I tried using Japanese Goldens and found that they worked better with Tangiers. I wasn't really super happy with the Goldens though--they seem to add an odd flavor I don't like so when I placed an order with Hookah Company today, I picked up a bag of Nour natural coals. These should definitely be interesting to experiment with. I really like the lack of any added coating or accelerant.Anyway, enough ramblings and good luck.

problem most have is unlike foil, you dont let the tobacco touch the screen. Just fill up the bowl just below the top of the bowl, then pack it down nice and tight. Then just just a toohpick or the poker on some tongs to poke through the holes in the bowl to allow for good airflow. Pop on the screen, then i usually use 2 three kings coals, and boom amazing smoke.

Evans; I have no problem letting the shisha touch the screen!Screen all the way; its so much easier, and i get great smoke. For my small MYA bowl (came with QT) I have to use foil, and i can do it just as well, no better, no worse, but its still takes more time.
