so i tried the chai spice tonight...

the smoke was HUGE and very, very yummy and flavorful! it was really, really spicy tho, and it burned the back of my throat a little (well, more like...tingled). not because it was harsh, but just very spicy. i liked it alot tho, because i smoke clove cigarettes and it reminds me of them a bit.

i wonder, if i were to mix it with a little vanilla or something, if it would cut down on the strong spice and give it more of a creamier, chai drink flavor rather than the straight up chai spice flavor that it has? actually, im just about sure that it WOULD, but the only thing is, i'd have to mix it with a vanilla tobaccy-based shisha. has anyone ever tried mixing an herbal shisha with a traditional? i think its time for an experiment!!!

mix the chai with any brand rose, its an amazing mix!

vanilla is ok, but they dont make a vanilla strong enough that you will be able to taste it next to the chai.

Here's my thing about herbals......

'Rani

Politely snipped.

Granted, we don't know what's in this stuff (well, I ain't looked at the package yet); but people have been smoking herbs for just as long, and probably longer than tobacco. Here's a couple I enjoy: damiana, coltsfoot, bear berry. The list goes on, many of them having been prescribed by herbalists... TO SMOKE.

Just saying....

Agreed... Plus, what about the Native Americans? I'm sure they've smoked plenty of different herbs for different remedies for centuries.

Being Cherokee (and a shaman of my people), yes, some herbs are indeed smoked or smudged in which case you're inhaling it anyway. Sugar Cane isn't one of them. And again, I'm not saying herbals are BAD, just that some perhaps shouldn't be smoked and unless someone is a certified herbalist, then I don't know about putting them into mixes based on taste. Willow for example is where aspirin comes from (though I believe it may be almost entirely synthetically manufactured these days). If you didn't know that and were severely allergic to aspirin, and someone gives you willow tea, or leaves to smoke????? My point is that herbs are MEDICINE and shouldn't be thrown around with the general attitude of "oh it's herbal so it's all better".

Oh, and I forgot to mention you sort of "busted" yourself..... I had to do a double check because tlhough I have some herbal knowledge I'm not an herbalist, and I thought I recalled something about Damiana.... and yep, milder version of a well-known NHT and an also an ancient "Viagra"....... Since I can't scan my entire herbal book, check out the link......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damiana

Sooooooooooooo.......

And I do hope you know I'm teasing you........

'rani... not gonna bother to quote ;-) I'll just some it up.

You make a very good point about the nature of herbs, and being careful about what one smokes. I should have been more cautious. Also should have been more cautious about that near NHT reference: it IS a visionary herb, and I am well aware of its... ahem, other properties ;-) I'm not a certified anything, except maybe nutcase; but I do my research, and come to my herbal practices from a Western esoteric tradition.

I was pretty sure we were being friendly, I did say politely, didn't I?

I'd love to chat sometime about your traditions, if that would be okay... Native American traditions fascinate me, respectfully.

Absolutely..... We were definitely being friendly. (See Mushy - we're being a good example to the little ones!) I just couldn't resist teasing you about the uses for Damiana - smile. It does bother me when people jump on the "all natural, herbal" bandwagon without doing any research or knowing what they're doing. Herbal has become a marketing spin-word and I don't believe that's a good thing. Herbs are like anything else. Some are harmless, some are far from it. Nice to meet someone who's taking the time to investigate and not just joining the spin.
