Seems you are the only one excited about this my friend. After I smoke my chai spice I may be a believer! Let's hope this knocks my socks off, I've heard very very good things about it, and I love chai.

I got mine today, Cherry Cola. It smells identical to Cherry Coke Syrup. Unfortunately my hookah hasn't arrived in the mail yet sleep.gif but hopefully I should be trying the Saalaam on Monday evening.

I too would like to minimize the tobacco use as much as possible, so I want to explore the herbal shishas out there. I ordered a 5-pack of black label as I found that brand to have the most posts praising it, but if this Saalaam smokes and tastes half as good as it smells I'll be ordering from them shortly.

so i tried the chai spice tonight...

the smoke was HUGE and very, very yummy and flavorful! it was really, really spicy tho, and it burned the back of my throat a little (well, more like...tingled). not because it was harsh, but just very spicy. i liked it alot tho, because i smoke clove cigarettes and it reminds me of them a bit.

i wonder, if i were to mix it with a little vanilla or something, if it would cut down on the strong spice and give it more of a creamier, chai drink flavor rather than the straight up chai spice flavor that it has? actually, im just about sure that it WOULD, but the only thing is, i'd have to mix it with a vanilla tobaccy-based shisha. has anyone ever tried mixing an herbal shisha with a traditional? i think its time for an experiment!!!

Here's my thing about herbals......

I know what tobacco is. I know what "chemicals" it naturally contains and I know after endless government studies exactly what's it's doing to me everytime I take a puff off my pipe. I don't know that about herbals. Just because something is herbal doesn't necessarily make it healthy. Hemlock is a herb. So's belladonna. (Herb as defined by the dictionary: A plant whose stem does not produce woody, persistent tissue and generally dies back at the end of each growing season.) Not to say that either hemlock or belladonna is in herbal shisha but I think you get my point. Without knowing every single herb and it's long term effects, why would I give up the devil I know for one I haven't got even a sliiver of information on since I'm not an herbalist. What's more, even with herbals, you're still inhaling smoke. You drop the nicotine, but you're still smoking - so where's the advantage to your body?

People around the world have been smoking tobacco in it's purest most unaltered form for thousands of years with little observable effect. It's only when they started adding things to it like the added 3,000 plus ingredients in cigarettes and putting paper around it which means you're essentially inhaling wood ash, that it started getting dangerous. Poeple haven't been smoking herbals very long and my gut tells me there's a reason for that - that they would have been popular for several thousand years themselves if they were all that good for you. I'm not saying herbals are bad, just that we have no evidence that they're any better. So me personally...... I'm thinking I'm probably going to stick to tobacco.

Politely snipped.

Granted, we don't know what's in this stuff (well, I ain't looked at the package yet); but people have been smoking herbs for just as long, and probably longer than tobacco. Here's a couple I enjoy: damiana, coltsfoot, bear berry. The list goes on, many of them having been prescribed by herbalists... TO SMOKE.

Just saying....

Agreed... Plus, what about the Native Americans? I'm sure they've smoked plenty of different herbs for different remedies for centuries.
