nickimholte
I know this has been discussed and i searched but all i could find was info on tangiers in a tangiers phunnel, and in an Egyptian bowl. What about a chinese phunnel or a glass phunnel? does the same packing method apply for these as well, or should tangiers be smoked out of the bowl it was meant for. the tangiers phunnel. Tom1
well, as a moral thing for me I would rather support Eric by buying his bowl if I'm going to be smoking his shisha.

SuburbanSmoker
honestly the chinese phunnels are a pain in the ass. not made nearly as well imo and for some reason heat management on them is a pain in the ass. the glass phunnels if it is a jet from mnh, i pack exactly the same i would a tangiers phunnel, but i usually end up using my tangiers phunnels because i usually have at least 2 clean on me at all times. LJ04
i tried my first tang (lemmon) last night, and it didn't go as well as i'd hoped. i used this small phunnel with the tang, but i don't remember where i got it, and i don't know if it's the chinese or if it's legit. i know my large phunnel is chinese (didn't know any better). can someone with a more experienced eye tell me which bowl this is? i know i did a really bad job with the heat. i smoked some SB blue mist out of this bowl the other night, and it was great. slightly packed, 3 coco naras til it was going good, then i stood the coals on their side to reduce the heat, and all was well. for the tang, since it said less heat is needed than for other tobaccos, i used 2 coco naras. the first few pulls were fantastic, then i got it too hot and i never recovered. i let it cool down for a long while, and even when the coals were burned down to about half size, it was really harsh with little smoke. i'm trying to narrow down what was bad about my setup... i tried to pack the bowl about as tight as the tobacco came in the bag, per the instruction sheet, but it could well have been not tight enough. i don't usually pack it at all, so this is a new technique. when i pulled the foil off to clean the bowl, the tobacco was probably 90% fresh, and even what was stuck to the foil was still moist. oh, and i did acclimate it, i think... i left it spread out for 4-5 hours. i don't know how much the smell really changed. it smelled mouth watering when i first opened the bag.so i think the 3 most probable culprets (possibly in combination) are:1) is this bowl legit or is it chinese compounding my heat problem?2) 2 coco naras on a small phunnel is too much heat?3) maybe my acclimation wasn't enough?setup: 24" mya vortex, ice water in bowl, small [unkown] phunnel, tang lemmon packed "about as tight as the tobacco came in the bag" or maybe accidently a bit looser, reynolds hd, 3 rings of pretty big holes, aluminum scali mod that i made from the bottom of a coke can. Stuie
Tangiers works okay in the MNH Glass and Jet phunnels only downside is the center hole is a bit too low for Tangiers. juice flows down a lot. It's easier to Smoke Tangiers out of a Hemi bowl than a standard Egyptian. delSol_si
I don't smoke Tangiers baccy simply because it is too expensive for me. I went ahead and got a true tangiers phunnel simply because 1. I heard on the board that Tangiers are much more durable (I am not a very careful person) 2. I like to support people who invent new things as long as the price is decent: Tangiers phunnel was $13, chinese was $8, and glass blown anything is at least $30, so $13 was ok for me. and 3. I heard that tangiers just work better overall.

evilded777
I just got my Tang phunnels on Friday, and so far I have smoked two bowls of Lucid Watermelon... neither of which was packed full. I'd say packed half, maybe, in a small phunnel. Both smokes were awesome; big clouds, great flavor, at least two rounds of coals a piece. I think I saved some of the left over from the first bowl (yes, half packed, and still some fresh on the bottom), but haven't had a chance to unfoil the last smoke from yesterday yet. What an amazing contraption the phunnel is. LJ04
i didn't mean to jack this thread, and i don't want to repost stuff from this thread...so tonight i took likespaceship's advice on ditching my homemade mod, and she's smoking great. i'm about 20-30 minutes in, and each pull is still getting better. probably packed a little more aggressively and no mod. all else is the same, i think. i found the receipt for the bowl, and it's legit tangiers, so that made me happy. BigSexyPanda
Has anyone tried tangiers in the vortex bowl? If so, how'd you pack it and heat it?
