Using Both Of The Scalli Mods

Recommended Posts

Well, I was sitting on my futon making the shisha saver created by scalli, then I picked up my tea light scalli mod and though "Fuck!" So, I then tried to figure out how to use them both at the same time. After trying various ways and such, I came up with this. I did try and suck through the bottom of my bowl to make sure there was airflow, and there was.

Let me know what you guys think, any comments, suggestions, flames, whatever you feel like posting. I don't know if this has been tried or not yet, but I haven't seen it on here, sorry if it has been

I am using the small PHUNNEL bowl for this.

Also...anyone have any good ideas on how to get that black shit off the rim of my bowl??

Because I like using the tea light mod, seems to smoke better that way for me...and I don't like using very much shisha per bowl...I never seem to finish the bowl and am tired of wasting shisha. ie. every time I empty the bowl after a session, there is still unused shisha in the bottom. Does this sound logical or just dumb?

Juice will drip out of the tobacco, shortening your session...
been there done that.
scalli mod serves to make sure air passes through all tobacco and no baccy down stem, thats it.

Would it be better to just pack less in there? The main reason I though this would work is so I could pack less shisha, but still have it reach the lip of the bowl...is the baccy being level with the lip necessary?

You know rattling around in the back of my head everytime I packed a small funnel, I too wondered how to not use so much tobacco...... So I'm curious..... Is there any reason half the bowl (one side) couldn't be packed with rolled up foil or whatever and you only use the coals where there's tobacco? I know, silly...... But I agree.... Funnels use a hella lot tobacco.

There is one guy who packs half a phunnel on here. He made some type of plastic thing where he places it in the bowl while he packs and then he just takes it out when he is done packing and he has half a bowl. You could pack less my dad used to pack less and it worked fine.

You can pack half bowls, but it takes a bit of practie to get the right amount.
it is necesary to have it even, well perhaps not necesary but you are just making life harder by using a new technique of that type.
Check this out, it saves me a decent amount of baccy and its always done to a crisp after, with no wastage.

First off, do you reuse your bowls? Second, can you last as long as your bowl?

wait... with all the juices dripping to the bottom of the bowl, wouldn't the baccy get toasted a lot faster? you might end up wasting more shisha.

Pack a full bowl, keep your coals on one half of the bowl, come back and finish it later since it most likely will not be done. There's no need to empty out your phunnel bowls just because you've finished one "session." I've come back and finished bowls 3 or 4 days later and the flavor has still been great.

Interesting but I'm hesitant about putting mystery metal into my bowl. Since the caps aren't designed for food content who knows if there's any lead at all in them and lead has a relatively low melting point among the metals I believe since it's used in solder specifically for melting. And in answer to your questions, yes, I reuse the funnel. Smoke with coals at say 12:00 and 6:00 and then next time around which might be right away, 3:00 and 9:00. But I don't carry over bowls from one day to the next because I've noticed a difference in flavor when I do. And I smoke at least every day - changing up flavors from bowl to bowl because usually I get tired of the flavor so I don't think I've ever smoked a funnel bowl all the way down to a crispy underside of the donut.

Checked it out, theres no lead. Been using them for months with no probs. And I heated it up to about 2500F to see if its melted or any other metals to be worreid about, no probs.
And yeah I notice a slight change, but I smoke for smoke's sake, flavor is secondary (must be there though).

exactly. and it drastically cuts down on prep time. put the coals on and water in the base and you're tip top.

when it's time to empty it out go to the sink and scrub it lightly with the rough side of a kitchen sink sponge, like the green side of a scotch brite or something. it gets about 95% of all that crap off the rim for me; in fact, it does better than that, my heads look new after i give them a little cleaning.

Yeh, I do this all the time...

Half-pack the side, and just do coals / holes on THAT side.

Its not rocket science biggrin.gif (I just have a medium, so talk about using tons of shisha).

I'm gonna say I pack my small phunnel with about half of what is recommended here. I can smoke 2-3 sets of coals, with rich smoke and good flavor... so far, out of 3 bowls of Lucid, this has worked a charm, with very little waste.

I just fork in what looks like a good amount, pack it down (well under the edge of the rim and the lip of the inner phunnel). I'll take a pic next time I pack one, and you can all tell me if I'm crazy or not. It works for me, but then I am staggered by the smoke I get from my phunnel and Razan hose... its like a whole new world to me.

Hrm...I've have to try that, the only time I've tried "saving" a bowl is it I've completely packed my med. phunnel, which can get over 3 rounds of coals sometimes, but only did 1 round.

Always a epic fail, so I just put the bottom shisha back in the tub.

This sounds interesting.

  • 1 month later...
I wanted a short session again so I decided to bust out my tealight+shisha saver mod again. The results were amazing. I packed Nahkla Mizo grape in it this time and got awesome flavor and tons of smoke. The bowl even lasted longer than I did. I smoked for a good 30 min and it was STILL going strong. Only loaded like about 15-20 grams I think. Here are some pics for proof...they don't do it justice and I was using my crappy cell phone cam and I suck at taking pics, but you get the idea...

Oh, and I got an INSANE buzz off of it. For some reason, I think that is the most buzz I have ever gotten off of it. I also would like to comment that when I was walking out of the lounge into the elevator, some guy got in the elevator with me and told me he could smell it all the way down the hall and he said it smelled amazing.
