Mini Phunnel

Recommended Posts

soooo, i bought a mini phunnel off a member and found out it holds the same amount as my small. the mini isn't quite mini, however...i noticed it's a bit narrower and deeper than my small. so, if i took a 1/4" off the top...it'd probably be a nice sized mini.

jon had his phunnel modded by Hobbs, with some fancy shmancy diamond cut something or other. i'm thinking of just going with sandpaper, water, and a little elbow grease. will there be any adverse effects on my bowl if i do this? Edited by arcane

If your gonna do it that way I'd suggest getting a sanding block so you can at least make sure it's even.

i'm just going to place the sandpaper on the table, dampen it with a little water, and turn the bowl upside down and do circular motions. it should end up the same level-ness as it originally was.

Did you buy it off Drabin?

nope. Edited by arcane

it'll probably be done today...or at least, part of it will be done today. just going to set up my hookah, bring the laptop out and get to sanding for about an hour or however long it'll take. i think the hardest part will be getting through the glaze..

btw, i got 60, 100, 150, and 220 grit sandpaper. i figure it's the same as lapping a heatsink. Edited by arcane

are you talking about hold the phunnel upright, and running the sanding block along the top? if so, that will probably take a lot longer since i won't be able to apply to same amount of pressure as holding the bowl upside and sanding on the table...

I used a diamond blade wet saw. Personally, I would never attempt this by hand... because just grinding down the center piece with a dremel tool took down close to nothing after 30 minutes with a coarse sanding stone.

But if you still plan on tackling it, I would wet sand.. that way you can get a cleaner finish, reduce mess, and avoid and chips in the ceramic. If there are any rental places around that had a tile saw you should ask if they had a problem with you cutting 1 thing, it would take less than 2 minutes and that it'd be a big favor.

damn...that sucks. and i don't think i'll find a place like that in korea...at least, none that i would trust. i know there's a metal shop place, but i doubt that'll be an ideal situation.

so...after 20 minutes of sanding...this is what i got so far.

sorry IV, i know your heart is probably breaking right now...but, i paid for a mini...and i'd like one smile.gif

and Hobbs is right...tackling this by hand is going to take some work. i'm most likely going to go off base and find someone that could do it for me.

Theres normal packing in my small. Looks like a little less than yours.

Sorry, the webcam has to work haha. Can't find my cam.

hey mitch....is that actually tangiers packed as in, you packed it down and everything? it actually looks like quite a bit less than mine because it's spread out.

hmmmm...anyways, if you notice there's a makeshift line dividing your shisha...the bottom half is what i'd like my mini to use.

edit: also, do you consider your small an actual small? Edited by arcane

better example...the bigger mass is the larger small and the smaller mass is my normal small i guess. and the shisha surrounded in red is around what i'd like my mini to use. the shisha is layered a little over 1/4" thickness. Edited by arcane

This is a tangent but your red area is way more than I could pack into my MNH Mini Glass Phunnel. You could consider going glass if you want to get real small.

i have the mnh mini, but i haven't gotten it to smoke well with tangiers. besides, i'd rather use the phunnel for all my shishas.

Yeah, that was packed. And yeah, I did spread it out a bit.

I wish I knew how big my small one is in comparison to other tangiers smalls. This small is near the size of my medium. I can't find my scale right now (as its probably in my roommates room right now) but if I remember to in the morning i'll pack a bowl and see what it comes out to. I'll give the medium a shot too and see how much I can out in there.

i just recently started packing my lucid like Scoop's method and am getting a ridiculous amount of smoke. but before that, it was just pick it up and place it in the bowl even with the rim and foil. a lot of flavor and great clouds. but, i like scoop's method for lucid...even though the flavor doesn't seem that strong.

so an update: after more sanding, a shot with the dremel and some stupid idea with a drill...i'm not much farther along.

so, i was hoping for a favor from the HF community. would anyone have access to a shop that could mod my mini phunnel? i'm looking for a 1/4" trim off the top and to have the phunnel just a smidge lower than the rim. i'll cover shipping to you, plus some shisha as payment for the trip back to me.

a little help pls. wacko.gif
