liquidglass
Hey guys, just thought I'd come on here and share some frustration. For those of you who don't know I attend Campbell University, it's a small private university in North Carolina. They've got a great law school and a few other schools but the big downside is they have a zero tolerance policy for alcohol. As a side note room checks are done twice a semester at the apartments i'm in because they're considered to be campus property. Which honestly it's not a big deal, everyone looks the other way unless it's right in their face. But this past weekend my older brother who is taking bartending classes dropped by with some stuff, showed me a few things and left the alcohol at my place, until he was able to pick it up (tomorrow). Well we had a scheduled room check, everyone hides everything, that's how it goes. I drink sure but I don't usually have $200-$300 worth of alcohol at my place. Well the room check got rescheduled not once but twice. I knew about the first rescheduling but the second one somehow slipped under my radar and as a result everything wasn't properly hidden (aka I had a room door ajar rather than locked) So now they found it, and told me I have until monday to move out. Yay me. On top of that I have to figure out how to fit it into my schedule of work and taking my MBA courses. There is a silver lining to the (smoke) cloud though:1) Right now I have enough money saved up I could pay for a new place for at least 6-8 months in advance if I wanted2) I'll still be under the "no alcohol" policy (supposedly) but there will be no one to check up on me, so I'm essentially out from under the rules.3) I've always wanted to move I just didn't want to move out of the place I've been in for 3 years now, so while it's not happening like I'd like it to, at least I'm moving to a better place. AND LASTLY!I just got my 'beat the taxes" order full of shisha and coals so that'll keep me happy before and after I move.
Stuie
That sucks LG. Moving sucks. At least you have a positive attitude. Personally I would be losing it about now.... I really hate moving.

Victim026
Thought about getting your brother to speak to them with proof of being in bartender school? They may look the other way if he says that he was the one that left it there and that it's not yours. Who knows, its at least worth a shot.... coplinb
I have to say, I am quite surprised at how well your taking the whole situation. I really thought this was going to be a big rant thread. You must be one of those 'glass half full' type of people! If I was anywhere near NC, I would be en route with moving boxes, but alas, all I can give you is two thumbs up for takin it like a champ. Kudos to you bro.
MechAnt
Sorry to hear that LG, sounds really unfair. Glad to see you are taking it in stride though.I had no idea schools were that strict about alcohol let alone someone over 21 ( I assume over 21 since you are taking masters courses)

Until one day the wrong person saw them and considered them weapons. Even though they are not weapons by definition. So I argued the point that I have a sushi knife that could do more damage and got the charge dropped.QUOTE (Victim026 @ Apr 7 2009, 11:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Thought about getting your brother to speak to them with proof of being in bartender school? Who knows, its at least worth a shot....I appreciate the thought, I considered it but the alcohol is considered in my possession since it was at my apartment. I had a friend who someone left one bottle of beer in his fridge, it was found, and even though it was someone elses he was held responsible. I'm going to try to see what they say, you never know. But the decision for me to move is pretty solid at the dean of student life level. The Men's Campus coordinator is a personal friend of mine and fought for it, but the dean wouldnt' change his mind.QUOTE (MechAnt @ Apr 8 2009, 01:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Sorry to hear that LG, sounds really unfair. Oh well. Thanks to everyone for the support though, it's always appreciated. Even though it sucks a bit to have to leave where i've got my whole place set up just the way I like it it is a good opportunity to get in a better place.Thankfully enough I have friends and a girlfriend who remind me of what I tell everyone else: everything happens for the best reason. Even if I don't know what it is lol.Oh and if anyone is in NC feel free to come by for the weekend and have a moving party with me I've got tons of coals, tangiers, tonic, etc and very nice KM's we can relax with after a hard days work

Vladimir
I feel for you, going to one of the probably few other COMPLETELY dry campuses (yes 21+ still must be dry) I know what a pain in the butt it is! Ours doesn't sound as bad though, there weren't room checks and they don't try to enforce it off campus. But on campus I used to pull an alchy and drink by myself because it was too big of a risk to drink with other people, save one or two.
BrotherBuford
Alcohol regs are really just stupid BS. Alcohol production and consumption has been around since the dawn of human civilization, and no teetotalers are going to change how ingrained it is in human society. That being said, if it was in a contract then you're bound by it. Certain parts of the world don't show much tolerance for alcohol, outside of the serious deviants.
