cxc5120
So I finally received my order from fedex today with my replacement small phunnel and lucid tangiers brambleberry. My gf and I opened the package and it was all nice and neat. I opened the shisha and placed it in a container and it smelled wonder or delicious lol. Packed the phunnel just like I would with af and did two rows of holes all around the bowl and placed 2 cocos on top. We began to smoke, but it tasted nothing like it smelled. It tasted like tangiers that hasnt been acclimated, I thought lucid didnt need to be acclimated though? So after about 20 mins or so of smoking and it not tasting better or getting thicker we gave up. Im letting the shisha acclimate now just to check? idkI cant think of what I could be doing wrong but maybe yall can? Thanks,Chase
Hobbs
You've probably taken most of these measures.. but, stir it up very well, if it smells good I wouldn't acclimate more than a couple hours tops, everything past that is just plain unnecessary.Perhaps pack a wee bit denser than al fakher. However your main problem I believe... is that lucid brambleberry (in my experience) doesn't taste 100% like it smells. It's good don't get me wrong, but by definition a brambleberry consists of raspberries, blackberries.. etc, anything that grows with thorny leaves on the plant. And the shisha tastes like a mix of blackberries and hint of raspberries for the most part, and it's not very sweet like most berry flavors.Lastly, I would do a bit more than 2 rows of holes
Hippo_Master
I have this exact problem. It smells great, doesn't need to be acclimated, but after 4 or 5 tries it's just not tasting anything like OG Brambleberry does. The smoke tastes very dry and tingly. I have tried packing in tight (not OG tight but close) with mod, tight without mod, loose with mod and loose without - each bowl with different hole patterns. The lucid Apple I have smells and smokes great.
evilded777
Sorry to hear about your troubles man, I really must be lucky.I let my Lucid acclimate a little just for the heck of it. Eric posted that it should be ok, but would smoke better with acclimation.I definitely pack it tighter than AF, but I'm not gonna say a whole lot. I tend to pack tight in general.I put three rings of holes around the phunnel and a whole bunch of little holes in the middle, which goes against the common wisdom here that puts a single big hole in the middle.Give it some time, I am sure you will get it. If I can get it, anyone can.
BBKakes
There are a variety of guides, wikis and videos all over this site and the web on how to deal with Tangiers. I would recommend looking at a few.
SuburbanSmoker
If you werent getting alot of smoke your doing something wrong right off the bat.as bb said, go look through the enormous amount of how to's for packing and heat mngment. as far as it not tasting correct, just let it acclimate a bit. evilded777
Y'know, that sounds similar to my first try with a real phunnel. I made the mistake of NOT pulling the foil nice and taut, and getting it the hell off the middle. Smoked like crap... rescued some of the bowl afterwards, when I thought to pull up the foil in the center. Instant difference (this was not Tang, I forget what it was). Ever since, I do not pack down with the foil, just in case... I just use my fingers, then keep the foil nice and taut across the middle.I know for sure that Lucid does not have the flavor of OG/Noir, whatever you call the original. Its just not quite there, and doesn't last as long; I've only had 2 flavors or each, but there IS a difference.

redjako
BAH, as I said in the chat:SMASH THAT SHIT IN YOUR PHUNNEL! COMPRESS it down with your palm, etc. But only ONCE, don't re-pack it on top of itself. Then, the tangiers will automatically fluff up on its own. Scrape the middle out, and scrape the excess top crap off. You should have HALF a cm above, really not much above the rim.The point is packing it dense.NEXT! OVERHEAT THAT BITCH.I don't care what anyone says, after two full failed batches I got pissed off at tangiers and slammed it with heat:Start off with: almost a full Exotica stick (less 1/2"), or FIVE FKING COCO's!Yes, massive heat. You will get INSTANT smoke and flavor..its freakin amazing.ten minutes later, you will need to REMOVE at least a THIRD of the heat (so your down to 3 coco's, or sometimes 2)now you OCD heat manage it: If no smoke / flavor, add a coal. If harsh, remove a coal.Adjust every 5 min, and you will LOVE tangiers.MORE HEAT!Edit: You NEED big holes and ALL the way to the bottom, I use a toothpick. As soon as I used this method, I nearly crapped myself with joy, instead of thinking Tangiers was just some online e-cred cult, I thought "man they really ARE on to something" Edited April 8, 2009 by redjako

speel
I get a chuckle every time I see a Tangiers wont smoke right thread, it's amazing people keep on buying it and saying yea maybe it'll smoke this time and yea sometimes you get LUCKY and find your self smoking like a champ. But all these methods and people pushing to use a phunnel bowl ( which is a good bowl ), it almost takes away the enjoyment. It's like crap I burnt it again gotta pack something else. What ever happened to packing a bowl, throwing some coals, and smoking away. Sounds like people have to stand on their toes, do a rain dance, call to the hookah gods and hold a bucket of water on top of your head to smoke Tangiers.Anyway, check youtube for tutorials that might help you out.
