Giant Ninja Robot
I picked up an off brand of coconut coal called Krypton the other day and cannot keep them lit. I wrote a review and you can read about how other than this issue they seem like they could be really good coals. They start to go out almost immediately after use and are fully extinguished after 15 minutes, and yes I flipped them alot to try to keep em going.ANY WAY TO KEEP STUBBORN COCONUT COALS LIT?!?!?!?!Rather not throw a kilo of coals out. chromecarz00
Im having the same problem, but not only with coconut coals but with mostly all of htem. The only solution i can think of is that the coals arent getting fully lit...
Hobbs
Perhaps a surplus of oxygen could help keep them going, as it's necessary in combustion. Maybe place your hookah near an open window.
Giant Ninja Robot
It's possible that they're not fully lit. I've only used em the once so I haven't really experimented with any variable situations to compare results. I let them light for a good 7,8,9 minutes, next time I'll try to leave em for a bit longer.
inino
10 minutes should be able to light any coal. Hmmm maybe use a wind cover see if it help. Are they giving smoke when they look dead or no smoke?
the_cool
If you use a coil burner to light your coals, I've seen that people leave the coals on until they have a little flame around them. They MUST be fully lit if they are fire!!But the main thing i want to add, is that when I flip my coals and the top is black, if I want to get red again quickly I just put a windcover on. After a little while the coal will be red hot all over. Only downside is that adding a windcover will increase the heat the bowl is getting. Try doing that EDIT: BEAT ME TO IT!!! Stuie
Windcover guys! It's a part of heat management just like ashing and moving coals. Throwing a windcover on for 45 seconds after ashing coconut coals revitailizes them. Put the coals dark side up and Add windcover, BAM! fully lit again. Giant Ninja Robot
the smoke is steadily decreasing as they go out.i used a windcover albeit tilted on the bowl, not freestanding, and they went out faster.
Giant Ninja Robot
sounds like I'll have to use a windcover properly and bust out the old coffee can height modification.Lazy ninja will try that and keep em lighting a bit longer.Any other suggestions? Voski
My guess is they aren't fully lit. Light them on one side without flipping. Leave it on long enough for the coal to light all the way through.
Giant Ninja Robot
But why when I have a free coffee can mod? Lazy ninja is also cheap ninja. Thanks though Stuie lol.Sounds like the consensus is more lighting time and proper windcover usage. Thanks all! Fingers crossed.

no longer welcome
not all coconut coals are created equal......That's serious though, not just my bias. There are actually a lot of choices on the market when it comes to coconut coals. Just read about other peoples experiences when it comes to choosing them. Giant Ninja Robot
Square coals, look just like Johns nats to me.edit - just read john's post lol, they arent the same, but look closer to his than others I've seen. They were only 8 bucks a kilo and I mostly shop locally so I thought what the heck why not try em. JDHarding
When they start dying, a windcover might keep them alive or wake them up a bit. I have to use one when my cocos get weak.

4d1ct3d
I just can't understand why aren't cocobricos/cocochas imported to the US market yet. It's just the best damn coal in the market and really cheap too! Good thing you found good coconut coals at a more reasonable price though
