jayeee07
So when I went to visit my uncle in Kansas City a few weeks ago, he showed me something a friend of his company makes. Its called a SolidDrive speaker, and I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it turns whatever you put it on into a speaker. Its pretty tight, but also pretty expensive(I think 350). Well after seeing that, and realizing my dad and her anniversary is coming up in a week or so, she bought him one and it came today. She had me hook it up to see how I liked it and all I can say is wow. Its so small yet so loud. And it gets louder on different surfaces. I think I'm getting one from my uncle(the one who knows the owner) and a couple of my aunts for graduation(HS) to bring with me to college, and was wondering if any of you have heard of them. http://www.soliddrive.com/sd1-desktop-kit.htmlthis is two of them:
K1024
amazing. im getting one when i have enough money, and i just heard about it from you..the concept is simple enough, instead of moving a cone of the speaker, it vibrates whatever surface its on in the same way.i wonder how it would work so well though...seems like 2 pieces of wood with 2 different densities, the same size though, would produce different tones when vibrated at the same frequency.i demand audio samples! jayeee07
That is true, I did notice a big difference when I put it at the end of my desk(where it is thicker) and in the middle(where it is just a 1 1/4" thick board) and it sounded louder, but had less bass in the middle, and had more bass along the side of the desk. I can't really use it anymore, because its my dad's and he doesn't know about it yet(not to mention audio samples would be limited to the quality of my shitty digital camera), but when its officially "given" to him, I will try and get some samples. When I get mine for college I think I'm going to use the leftover wood from my recent subwoofer box build to make a small maybe 8"x8" box to set it on for my dorm that has optimum sound quality once I figure out which is better overall and figure out how to make it.Its definatly a neat little toy, although expensive. I think my uncle got this one for 349.99 with shipping, and I'm assuming that he didn't get a discount on it but he may have. He isn't the type of guy who would need one though. liquidglass
you can find similar products for $100 or less on the internet, that have been around a long time before this. fyi
jayeee07
But have you ever heard them? Not as impressive as the idea itself. This actually sounds crisp and can get louder than you would expect
liquidglass
unfortunately I've never had a chance to experience them personally but I've heard great things of course only getting better as time does. Using a desk as a speaker, etc.
