Vladimir
So I have a flatop electric stove so that is out... but I guess my question is what do you need to light the coals? Heat alone? In which case could you stick them on some foil in the oven or even on some foil on top of the flat top stove? Or is direct flame better? (How then would it light anyway?)I can always use the BBQ I read, but that seems like a poor use of propane lol.Really want to give natural coals a try sometime soon. evilded777
Get a single coil electric heater; they go for $10-$14. You can get one at WalGreen's, its where I got mine. I'd love to say that natural's are all I use now, but I can't... going up to the kitchen every time to light new coals is just a pain when I'm gaming or watching a movie (not to mention having to clean up so the partner doesn't throw a hissy because of the charcoal grains)... but when I am sitting down for a good, long session, with some nice shisha, natural is the way to go. Vladimir
Sweet thanks, like this? Didn't realize they were available for such a fair price. How long does it normally take to start coals on this? I have to get everything fine tuned because my smoking partners could care less if smoke comes out of it- last time I tried something new to load the perfect bowl it didn't work right and everyone was pissed . (I have always placed the shisha to the brim so coals definitely touching it, so tried a little less this time and it failed).
erufiku
QUOTE (giant ninja robot @ Apr 13 2009, 04:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>the foil will melt or burn through.get a coil burner from walgreens for 10 bucks.Yup, when I go over to my parents' house they don't like me using their stove to light coals so I got one of those portable burners and light it in a separate room. Works great, takes abour 2-3 minutes.
BaronIV
to get them fully lit, depending on the coal, takes 4-6 minutes.and by the way, switching over to naturals is like starting hookah all over again, they make an amazing difference

evilded777
I'm gonna have to look at the clock next time. 2-3 minutes does seem fast... I'd say more like 4-6, but I could very well be wrong.
Vladimir
Okay WOW! Put a few on there and could tell right away, after they went out we switched to some quick lights and WOW x 2. I'm not sure I could ever smoke quick-lights again (but it was After 9 which isn't a favorite of mine anyway).Question is this- ours seemed to go out pretty quick (as in burn to ash). Do you have to reload often or did I just get a bad few or cheap ones or something? (Romman lemonwood is what I got).
risingphoenix
After reading this post I went over to walgreens and picked up that single coil burner. It was the same price as advertised on the walgreens website. I plugged it in a few minutes ago to test it and it got red hot! I have some coco nara coles, so I may do a little test tonight to see how long it takes them to light.
