The review for the KM Kafae I received from thehookah.com is up.

http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=29860#entry359790

Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

I was actually thinking of ordering one of those this weekend... is it worth it for full price? how's the taste of brass vs. stainless steel? can you tell a difference? I just don't want to get it in and it has a taste that won't go away. How's it for cleaning? easier, worse...?

Nice review man, must of course add some smoking pics, well, just because I like seeing them lol.

I have a short brass KM stem that's heavy as hell so I can relate to it feeling disproportionately heavy in the best way possible.

Possible pics of the blemishes that brought the score down just to give a visual idea of what you speak?

xipander - the brass on my 2 imparts no taste, granted not this specific model.

Couldn't get them to show up on the camera, I'm working on it though.

I've never noticed a taste difference between stainless and brass. I haven't had a brass pipe long enough to tell if cleaning in the long run is going to be a bitch, but it doesn't look any more complicated than any other hookah.

Here's the pic of the blemish on the hose port, I'll get a mod to add it to the original post.

Looks like the plating got chipped at some point. Again, I think I'll pick up some polish and go to town on it.

It doesn't look quite as bad in person. The flash really brings it out. I didn't even notice it when I first took the pipe out of the packaging, but caught it the second time around.

Edit:

Thanks Victim, I Pm'd mush.. I'll tell him NM smile.gif

NP, if you need anything else added just lemme know smile.gif Nice review btw, looks like a decent pipe although I'd personally be quite peeved that they subbed out a different hose. Mostly due to the fact that they made a point of saying the hookah would come as pictured and you weren't allowed to sub out different hoses and such on your order.

Yeah I agree. I kind of like the hose they sent though. If this were a standard review of the vendor and pipe, I'd be more upset about the tray and the hose. I really just wanted to focus on the quality of the pipe itself though.

It's also worth it to note that the blemishes aren't indicative of the quality of the pipe. It just looks like it got knocked against something at some point and chipped a little bit.

sweet review and im glad they didnt send you a "perfect" one to make them look way better.

That's a great point, the one I bought is in great shape. Mainly because I got to pick from thirty of the same model. Mine has no visible blemishes and has really good welds.

I liked the pic's Zinite, well done. You aren't kidding when you say it's heavy. tongue.gif

I still want to know who got the tri-metal...

2nd that..... I don't think anybody ever heard who got the opportunity on the tri-metal. Or if they did, I missed it. Nice review and interesting to prove a quality point that a pipe is blemished. Though quite frankly "stuff" happens.

With the pipes coming from Egypt, you expect them to get knocked up a bit. It's not bad at all in person. My girlfriend didn't even see it when I was pointing at it in dim light.

The main point here is that KM quality seems to differ from pipe to pipe. Someone posted their Heart of the Lion a few weeks ago that looked like crap. 6 months ago I bought a KM Ice that still has no rust or any corrosion. So maybe there is no trend as far as an overall decline in quality from KM. Obviously my single review isn't a good sample size, but don't let a few misses in quality control deter you from purchasing a KM. I couldn't be happier with either of my KMs.

I was the one who posted the pics of the HOL and it was not in the best of shape....and I am not the first to report this. George at thehookah.com even stated that KM doesn't put as much effort into their smaller hookahs. The Sig that I got from the hookah is perfect and as good of quality as my other KM's

As a side note to your review, the hose they sent is much higher quality then one in the picture on the site. I have now seen 3 of these new hoses and every one of them has been much lower quality then should be allowed. The hose material is a smaller diameter and has a noticable cheaper feel to it, the handle and hose port ends are wrapped with cheap pleather (more plastic then leather, feels like the first "leather" wallet your mom bought you....like when you were 4 years old). Only thing you can say that is good is they are unlikely to fall apart, but this is due to the fact that they used about 17 hotglue sticks to put them together and sure didnt take there time to do a good job. Everyone that I have seen is matted with hotglue ALL over the junctions...horrible.

Are they the worst hoses I have seen?...no. I still feel that even these hoses are 1000x better then your standard mya hose, and should you expect a deluxe or ultimate?...no. But you shouldnt have to explain to your friends why your hose is..well..chunky.

Its supposed to be a standard review, it doesn't matter what it cost or didn't cost. If I altered my reviews based on the price, you couldn't trust any of my reviews, since I get all this stuff for free. laugh.gif

Glad you are happy with the hookah. I personally have the same one and love using it every time. Easy to clean and maintain and is a great size, small but heavy and hits like a beast. The blemishes are inevitable. They are basically a result of the polish residue missed in the polishing process.

When getting a hand made hookah, you are asking for imperfections but that's what makes it even more beautiful. If you were to compare the finish of a KM to a modern Chinese hookah, it does not even compare. I however personally like the fact that they do not have a perfect finish. It just reminds me that someone made that hookah with their best intentions regardless of the minor flaws or blemishes which may have occurred along the way. Every KM hookah tells a story, and every story is slightly different from the other.

Thank you for the detailed review. I am sure you will enjoy that hookah for a very long time. Edited by TheHookah.com
