Need A New Base Grommet...

Recommended Posts

as a temporary fix you can cut a strip of cloth from an old tee shirt and get it wet and wring out the excess moisture and then wrap it around the stem and then just cut the excess! screw buying another grommet, it's really unnecessary Edited by antouwan

I'm not sure where to get one anymore, but H-S used to sell a really nice silicone vase grommet...I use that on my Glyph, and it works great. only downside is it's VERY hard to remove...it involves dishsoap and a flathead screwdriver to get the soap under teh grommet to remove it.

The hold it gives is incredible...carrying by the stem is very possible, although not reccomended.

this is adjustable so you make it fit any size vase. best grommet on the market.

I checked this out, inino, but just felt like I was missing something. Maybe I just expect that the grommet ought to have the flat section that sits between the stem and vase; this one doesn't seem too, and I don't see how it COULD it you can use more than one. And seeing how that is where my is cracked and leaking from... it leads me to doubt the efficacy of this solution.

the upper lip isn't a huge deal if the seal is tight in the glass.... the stem will sit flush with the glass and it should be air tight..... not that i've ever used those grommets but i would assume thats how it would work

Yes, after taking apart the hookah today, I discovered that the WHOLE grommet was split, not just the upper lip like I thought. Someone had wrapped it in electrical tape to disguise it, and I didn't realize that until the tape fell off. Now I see how the upper lip might not matter so much, but when I thought that was the only thing broken... it seemed to make a difference!

ya trust me if you get that adjustable one you will love it, and best thing is it can interchange between hookahs to fit different sized pipes. the wet t shirt strip works great for a temporary fix too as said above.

Electrical tape works well as a temporary, too.

There might be a number on the top of the gasket, it may be a mirror image, like 0E (a 30). Gaskets and shanks vary in size, so even if you get the right size gasket, you may need electrical tape to size it. The other alternative is to measure the size of the jar hole and we can tell you what size it is.

yeah, i'm just not a huge fan of it because when you do get your new grommet, you have to clean off all the shitty stuck on adhesive when you remove the tape....hey i'm just a little lazy and think electrical tape is just more trouble than it's worth...just my 2 centavos

That's weird, I was puzzling over that and trying to figure it out. It says, I think, 26. But its TOO small, that's why its split. I don't know if they split it on purpose to get it on, or what; but if it was whole, I dunno how it would ever have gone on there.
