MechAnt
So, the main gripe about MZ's for most people is that it has significant resistance for purging.I found the solution..... Use a KM purge valve cap.I'll get a video up sooner or later.Purges just like a KM if not better! It feels freer than a KM. I'm gonna make one similar to this one sometime.Current solution, buy a KM valve cover.
Sonthert
Some Egyptian hookahs have an adjustment for the amount of purge through the vent in the vent itself. Loosening the vent cap lowers the resistance. I don't know if its intentional, but its not uncommon. If you see what I'm saying. Maybe they made it that way intentionally. MechAnt
Hmmm... perhaps. I've experimented with the MZ purge valve many a time and this seems like the most successful along with making one out of aluminum foil (which I have done before).I'll try tinkering with the loose-ness of it. Hookie The Hookah
Also, I find that the ball bearing in the purge cap gets a little greasy sometimes so you gotta make sure it's clean otherwise it'll stick to the hole and you won't be able to purge at allllllllllll

I have to clean mine before I use it each time. You could always try using different sized bearings.
indian_villager
Or you could bore more holes into the mz caps.

Giant Ninja Robot
I think it has much less to do with the KM brand and more to do with that particular hexagonal cap. My rotator came with that cap, so I put it on my Amoura which didn't come with one and it fit and purges better than my KM that came with a "mushroom" shaped tip. MechAnt
yea, the "rice paddy" cap (as I call it), is none too great. It's just that this particular cap has about 6 holes as opposed to MZ's normal 3.So what I've been trying to mean this whole thread is not that KM has better purge necessarily than other brands, its just a better cap design
Giant Ninja Robot
I UNDERSTAND NOW!Moral of the story? Buy hexagonal caps or gtfo.

I tried it and thought it was the greatest thing ever until I realized it was leaking air. Aluminum foil just doesn't seal very well (or at least it didn't for me). Then again, I took the bearing out and stuck some foil down the hole then made a cap out of foil, so that could have been the problem(my ball bearing rusted).QUOTE (Hookie The Hookah @ Apr 15 2009, 10:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Also, I find that the ball bearing in the purge cap gets a little greasy sometimes so you gotta make sure it's clean otherwise it'll stick to the hole and you won't be able to purge at allllllllllllWe had a thread awhile back about using air-soft bbs. Everyone agreed they work awesome, seal and purge better than metal. Plus, you have to buy a few hundred at a time, so instead of cleaning, just throw it away and put a new one in. I have also used the little ball on the end of my cartilage earring piercing before, worked well. Edited April 15, 2009 by delSol_si
Bookworm
My MZ purges great, and I can't wait to try an airsoft BB. Just need to convince my roommate to buy some.
Sonthert
Its not a question of more holes. The old hex-caps with a plastic knob do-dad on a threaded and blind bolt would bind the BB when the bolt was twisted down all the way. You simply loosened the bolt to loosen the BB up. I suspect that might be the case here, too...or too restrictive a valve cover.

Sonthert
This is a little weird, but I've noticed that when I start a bowl of KP at the same time as somebody else, manage their charcoal identically, relatively identical, clean pipes for kashmir flavors, all things being as identical as posssible, if they are habitually purging their pipe, its harsher when I try it and mine is smoother when they try it...does habitual purging cause more harshness? I can't understand why, but it seems to be the case.
mustang_steve
.25g to .30g airsoft BB in the purge valve, then add a few holes. The airsoft BB is easily replacable and cheap, so if it gets nasty just swap it out...the weight is enough to give a better seal than the .12g walmart airsoft BBs (not to mention most heavyweight airsoft BBs are perfectly round too).adding the holes, like was mentioned earlier in the thread is great...more airflow potential is always great.
