Oh I failed today, I was using raid today and I didnt think about the blow back from the raid and I put my hands into the tub of my tangiers and basically ruined my brand new tub of shisha. Whether or not I had raid on my hands (I am pretty unsure of it) I didnt want to test it out so I threw it out (and you know die...) sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Oh wow that sucks, how much shisha?

Sad Fail sad.gif

I'd say about 200Grams (give or take) worth of peach icetea. It was brand new I smoked two small bowls out of it. Before I decided to spray raid outside my house then say to my self wow it would be great to smoke some peach ice tea and then dig my hands into it and realizes wow I could have raid on my hands from the backmist/backfire of the raid which happens quite often....

And I didn't want to die so I just threw it out... sad.gif Peach Icetea had become one of my favorite flavors... My next order wont be for a very long time and I am really mad, but what can I say its my fault for being to excited to smoke some shisha after exterminating in beautiful weather and jumping onto my tub and stirring it right after and not cleaning my hands.. Gonna go against the grain here, and vote against the common wisdom of packing a phunnel "to the brim".

+1

Speaking as a daily Tangiers smoker, this method works for me too. I grab pinches of the shisha and place it in the phunnel all around, then I press down slightly with my thumb. No forks or other eating utensils involved. I use a double layer of HD and poke two rings of deep holes. 3 coconaras with a windcover to start, remove the windcover after 5-10 minutes. Smoking Bliss

Man, if I had a video camera, I would make a quick tutorial video. I've been smoking Tangiers exclusively since he sent me some samples a few years back.

I open the shisha, put it in a glass container, and let it air for an hour or three. I pack the tobacco fairly tightly, so that it's just above the nipple of the phunnel bowl. Slap a piece of foil on it (prefer heavy duty, but I don't think it really makes a big difference at all) tightly, with the shiny side down (don't really think this makes a difference, but whatever). I poke a couple rings of holes. I've tried the way Eric pokes the holes with the oyster fork, and I've never been able to get it to work as well for me as I'd like. I usually don't poke holes over the nipple. Sometimes I do. Whatever.

Slap 3ish half Three Kings coals on it, and smoke that shit. I think the problems most of you are having with Tangiers is that you're not acclimating it enough (or you're doing it wrong), and your heat is off.

The other thing is though, this shisha has some serious balls to it. It will take you time to get comfortable smoking the unwashed type, and you'll probably cough like a bitch. These things happen. Work through the pain.

I'm not trying to be condescending here, but I haven't been on this forum in ages, and it's funny to see threads that are pretty much identical as threads a couple of years ago.

I just finally got a nice bowl of tangiers going today.

What you need to do is pack the bowl with a fork pack it in a above the rim then clear the hold in the middle.
Then put your foil on top and press it down with the heel of your hand till you get the shape of the outer rim then tighten it up I poked 3 rings of holes with a skewer they were staggered the outer rings I made sure to go all the way to the bottom and the last one i just poked small holes.

It worked perfectly nice flavour no buzz, no harshness and tons of smoke.

For coals I used 2 Cocos at first I had one standing up and one lying flat then once it got light I put the second one flat.

Hope that helps.

I've been doing this too, when looking for a milder more flavorful smoke.
But if I am looking for a stronger smoke, I pack over the top as in the videos.

Ive over packed it once like way way much and smushed it down real hard and it tasted like shit... seriously just put it like 2cm over the bowl and push down lightly to mildly with the foil... You'll get a good smoke..

Dont push down like your trying to smother some one.. Edited by newjacksm

So I just used THIS method last night and it was beautiful:
http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=17067

Scoop it in with a fork, press slightly, foil, etc. I use almost a whole stick of coco's for 10 min, then let off coal by coal until I'm down to 1 or 2 half pieces.

This, as well as my super pack method has worked: Jam the whole bowl into the shisha and compress with your palm. The shisha will "fluff" up a bit, so knock it off until its just slightly above the rim.

Foil / mega heat at first, then let it off.

I WOULD like to point out that my FIRST session ever last night (Tasty Peach) was less kick and "murder your face"ish then ever, AND my ninny friends could smoke it, I think all due to goood packing and WARM WATER.

I searched for a few hours yesterday on sonthert +tangiers and found his little nuggets of knowledge, and he hates icecubes.

Try it with WARM water, it rocks for tangiers (I'll have to try it later for AF mint or something else).

I love how this is seemingly such a picky tobacco but everyone's "THIS is how you do it right..." post is a totally different method...

I never said my method (which I really shouldn't even say its "my" anything) was right; I just offered an alternative suggestion.

As someone else said, hookah smoking is an art. Everyone is going to have different methods for their own success. Tangiers is like stepping up from finger painting to oils on canvas, that's all.

Still haven't gotten time to try any of the methods yet! sad.gif But When i do I am going to try the underpacking method. I think my problem is I over pack and then it burns the hell out of the shisha and it gets extremely harsh. I think if the foil isn't touching the shisha that hopefully it won't be so rough.

Don't try underpacking trust me eric told me overpacking is the key just make sure you push down the foil and you will be fine.

I think that's one of the things I like about it. This is not a shisha for the beginning or intermediate hookah smoker. Whatever technique(s) you use, you're going to have to have the basics down well, and even then, you're probably going to struggle a little to start out with. Once you master it though, you've left the realm of enthusiast, and entered the much harder to define world of hookah aficionado.

Shit, that was deep.

Fung shwei hookah, or spelling..

Tangiers = don't underpack.

Read all the tutorials, you may waste some shisha, but it'll come together.

Then you don't want to smoke anything else biggrin.gif I have 10 gigs of me ranting about hating tangiers and how its just a stupid cult cause it won't smoke good, then 20 more gigs of me loving it, and smoking it constantly.

I'm just lazy to upload.

i tried evilded's method with melon blend....its not the best method for me, because when i tried it out...it lacked a bit of flavor and smoke density. the good thing though is that there was no tickle to the back of the throat. still a pretty good method for someone that can't stand the tickle in the back of your throat.

i think i'll stick to Scoop's version or the Spaghetti guide.

Part of the problem with using a message board to discuss a hobby like smoking flavored tobacco is that everyone's ideas about what a good session is differs.

I might come on here and say " I got loads of smoke" and if you actually saw the smoke that I did get, you might say, meh...that's really not that much.

Same thing with flavor....I could say I got sooo much flavor, and you come and taste it and you say, meh...I've had better.

With Tangiers, a "good session" differs greatly based on your own expiriences. I've had great sessions that I remember distinctly, and I've had other sessions that weren't so great (including just plain not enjoying the feeling from the tobacco.) Those great sessions might actually be crappy sessions for the rest of you...

Tangiers is a strong tobacco. In the age of instant gratification (especially when you pay for it and everyone tells you how amazing it is) it usually takes a little getting used to. It kinda sucked when I finally got it where I was enjoying the smoke, I couldn't smoke for more than 30 minutes because the nicotine was just too much. Now, I've had sessions where I can smoke it for hours and not feel like throwing up everywhere.

I think the key is to compare it with your past expiriences with other tobaccos. The flavor isn't going to be 10 times better than Al Fakher or Starbuzz...it's going to be different. Then it becomes a situation where it should be to each his own...

I personally find it to be the tobacco I enjoy the most. But I've also found that I just don't like the fruit flavors. They are never as good, to me, as advertised. I didn't like horchata that much because it was too hyped on the forum. I love the kashmir flavors because I find them so different and satisfying, moreso than anything I've ever smoked. I like blueberry mixed with a little mint. I hated brambleberry and didn't see what all the fuss was about with melon blend. Indigo Flower was good but lacking a little in flavor. It's kind of funny, Eric I think mentioned that he started making his own tobacco because he was looking for something he liked. When I smoke some of the flavors, I think, I would like a little more this or a little less that...but I'll only be able to get that if I just make it myself...in the meantime, this is the tobacco I enjoy the most.

The point is...to each his own. It's my favorite tobacco but I still only really enjoy certain flavors that I've tried so far.

However, you MUST follow the directions. Let it sit until it smells good. Pack it as tight as you possibly can at first, when you get used to it, you can judge it a little more. Use japanese coals, or broken up quicklites. And I think the most imporant think for people that are smoking it for the first few times: DON'T PULL FROM THE HOSE LIKE YOUR TRYING TO SUCK THE WATER OUT OF THE VASE. It will be too harsh on your lungs. Take gentle, but long hits. You will get more smoke than you ever imagined you could get.

Sorry for the long post!
