K1024
So i bought a 10 pack of fish tank filters...and decided that i wasnt going through them fast enough. so this is what came of it.thats right, a fish filter in my hookah.what this means: much better diffusion, some amount of smoke filtration in the cotton, and activated carbon filtration.not really sure what the activated carbon is doing, more to come on that...but i smoked it and it was fine, if not better.the bubbles look big, but trust me they actually looked like diffuser bubbles..also theres alot of smoke going through the inside of the filter, getting even more filtrated. the hits that produce bubbles on the outside are huge rips.the flavor was incredible. the first half of the first set of coals was amazingly orangy and vanilly. the bowl was mostly apricot! the second half was a very nice apricot, so i think what happened is there was more orange on top than apricot (i mixed before hand). the vanilla flavor was very surprising though, because vanilla is a very weak flavor.questions, comments, concerns, chickens <- these things are appreciated. JDHarding
I can't tell what kind of fish filter that is.. plastic square/rounds for bed filters? Or something cotton-wrapped for one of the bigger external filters? Doesn't look like a pour-over/waterfall filter.

mitchard
Great idea. I have thought about trying to find something similar to this (the whole fabric concept), and this looks like it works perfectly.

Canon
carbon cleans up toxic stuff. its a natural purifier. its used in water filters.

I will do some more research on this tonight, but this was just a proof of concept that it wouldnt make the shisha taste bad.QUOTE (joytron @ Apr 18 2009, 08:09 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>good work!got a few i might have to try from my turtle tankwoot a chicken! JDHarding
I just thought of this idea.. the little plastic diffusers that hookah-shisha sells.. why not put activated coal in it? There's uhm.. food grade bamboo charcoal that could really make things interesting.. worth a shot? It's only about $2 for a box of it.
inino
nice! I use an onion bag for mine, if I use a diffuser.

ilikemyusername
activated charcoal is just coal thats gone through another heating and sealing process, its still just carbon.unless its acid washed carbon, that stuff is the schnizzle.it actually sizzles when it touches water, and sucks out a tremendous amount of funky nastiness, lime calcium rust copper tannins poo, you name it it gets it.
