Hookah And Diabetes

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, long time no post!

Anyway, I've been meaning to take my hookah over to a friends place as they've never smoked before. However, he's got diabetes and I'm not sure what kind of effect the molasses in the tobacco might have. I'd assume little since I've not heard anything about it and internet searches only bring up the negative effects of smoking cigarettes with diabetes.

So any diabetics here smoke hookah? Does it screw with your blood sugar level any?

Nurse Tati says:
While I dont think that smoking molasses will have the same effect as eating it... I dont think it would raise blood sugar, but you should still be careful.

agree with Coplin.

I had type 2 when i was younger so i know about the beetis.

There is so little sugar in the honey or molasses in shisha compared to say, oh, a soft drink or ANYTHING with high fructose corn syrup, including most of our breads and non-sweet snacks that it would imo be negligible.

Also molasses and honey have lower glycemic index levels than many other sweeteners that we regulkarly consume.

Have your friend take a test before smoking and then about 20-30 minutes after to see if he's having problems. Of course that would only work if he had a normal reading beforehand and didnt have a hypo/hyperglycemic issue in the process of smoking and didnt eat during the session.

What Sonthert said, I don't think the sugar vaporizes, otherwise there'd be like a caramel left over in the bowl from the sugar having melted like that. I would think, not 100% but that's my story and I'll stick to it.

Not as good as the video you posted but this was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the thread title.
