Alcohol Question

So in precalc last week my teacher overheard some convo about drinking and shared with us that we can drink in Tennessee even if we are under 21 as long as our parents are with us and buy it for us. And we are allowed to drink underage at private residences with our parents... I didn't really believe it because he is kinda a jackass but today when I was at Chili's with my mom, we decided to ask the waitress. She said that when she was getting her license to serve alcohol she learned that you are allowed to do this, but she personally wouldn't sell it to me because of her views or whatever. She said to go to the bar and they will, and it actually happens more than you would think. I didn't really care enough to pay 3.00 for a beer so I just declined. But I just wanted to see if any of you knew about this or could verify it. I belive her, I just can't fully believe this after my whole life knowing that you had to be 21 to drink haha. There was a chart I found on my iphone at chili's and it said TN was one of the states that has exceptions to the drinking law. Just some thought, post up

well if the cops dont catch you its totally fine anyway. and on a side note you should have gotten her fired by asking your mom for a beer then have her refuse and then report her to management. a server isnt the place to take the moral ground. imaging the crap that would be caused if there was loudmouth vegan that yelled at you every time they delived you a steak at outback. or someone that threw blood on your fur coat when they ring it up whereever fur coats are sold.

Yeah I am pretty sure its the same in NY too. As long as its in a private residence and your parents are present then its ok. I found out about this last year. Edited by newjacksm

You should know that $3.00 for a beer, of whatever type, from a restaurant, is cheap.

But, for your question, check out: http://www.alcoholpolicy.niaaa.nih.gov/stateprofiles/. From their most recent survey/update, Tennessee doesn't appear to have the allowances your waiter suggested, but perhaps the law changed since these statistics.

In Texas the proper procedure is to charge a minor for consumption, bring him to trial, have his parents testify that he was under their supervision, and drop the charges.

If a minor is under his parent's supervision, the charges will be dropped - however, it is the officer's choice to ticket or not.

Depends on the state or province you live in.

In Manitoba, the legal drinking age is 18, but if you are 16+, you can have an alcoholic drink (not sure how many) in the presence of a LEGAL parent or guardian. Not just some hobo you decided to pick up off the street.

And for some reason you can walk into an MLCC with your children who are under 14 and buy booze. Yeah I dunno.

You can drink in Texas under 21 as long as your parents purchase and supervise as well. My dad taught had no problem handing me a drink even at the age of 12 and it's saved me from alot of the trouble my other friends have gotten into trying to sneak around and drink.

They may have just changed it recently, but if you're married and say your girl was 19-20 and the guy is 21+ she can legally drink with you in Texas. I did hear they were thinking about changing it though, but I don't know tbh, I just know how it used to be.

Pretty much the same situation for me.
