Wow...wow...wow! Fucking This Is Just Retarded!

Recommended Posts

So, there's a hookah bar here in Cinci that I go to a lot, I helped them set up and open and even serve/help out on busy nights. Well I just got a call from the owner Tellal and he said that the police came in and threatened to arrest everyone unless they could prove there was no NHT in the hookahs due to the date. That has to be illegal on some level? I can't STAND when people associate NHT with hookah.

Nice. I also love the bit about the patrons and lounge having the burden of proof, so much for innocent until proven guilty, now it's all guilty until proven innocent. One more great outcome of the drug war eh? It's going bad, getting worse all the time too. I remember a recent post on this forum (I think it was the serious discussion forum) about a member getting beat up by cops because he had a T shirt that was negative towards the police. It's just crazy, that sucks man, really sucks. Did they have a warrant or anything? If not, tell that owner to sue the pants off the police there!

I know but the fact they just came in with no warrant or anything like that to a buisness and demanded something like that with those kind of claims. Imagine if they walked into Mush's store and did that? It's not fair that we have to suffer because of other people.

If they woulda walked into Mush's place like that, he woulda pulled out his Dirty Harry. Then they woulda been sorry.

Call City Hall, find out when the next city council meeting is, show up and address the council. Having worked for a City and having to represent my department I can tell you the Chief of Police will be there and he won't be happy to be on the hot seat with you addressing the council. Personally I'd take along something showing how many local taxes have been paid, etc., and displaying the valuable addition the place is to the community at large. They should back off entirely and the officers who went into the building will likely get a dressing down for their Chief having to hear about it because the Council sessions are required by law to be recorded.

EDIT: Our Chief of Police at the City I worked with often walked out of these meetings suspended for not controlling his department.

I'll have to look into it. I'm just so disgusted right now in the city. Apparently this happened because the bar 1 block down had kids bring in NHT and put it in their bowls without the server/owner knowing and an undercover cop was there.

Take a hookah and shisha with you and show the council what it is. Then back the police is shutting down those places that allow other, ahem, "substances" into their place. It is what it is and we the community have to be vigilant in distancing ourselves from those who think hookah is for something other than tobacco. I'm sure Mush has a decent relationship with his local police to know what is and isn't going on there. I would do the same. If I found someone in my place of business doing something illegal, I'd be the one calling the police. If the owners make that same commitment, they shouldn't have any future problems.

Damn FSU sorry to hear bout that. Shit I know Tellal as well and I know for a fact that he would not allow something like that to take place at his hookah bar. Those officers should be reprimanded in my opinion. Go to city council and rip them a new one. And yes I agree with Rani on making a relationship with the local authorities to make sure that the cops know that what is going on at the Hookah Cafe is completely legit.

Have you Cincinnati guys ever been to a Cincy city council meeting?

I hate to rain on the parade, but you might as well forget about wasting your time at one. The clowncil is a joke, and the people who typically speak at the council meetings are people with all sorts of ridiculous issues that aren't worth hearing about. The real issues end up getting buried in the garbage.

On the original topic, did anyone actually get arrested, or were they just checking the place out? Seems fair to me if one hookah lounge was having NHT problems, that they'd check out the place right down the street too.

I live in Los Angeles. Cinncinati has absolutely nothing on LA. I guarantee you. So what do you do? Give up? Not address the issue? Allow them to believe it's okay because nobody said anything? Nothing changes unless people change it. If the City Council won't listen, close down the place one day, invite the Police Department to a free hookah day and teach them all about it. And let them know you support them in getting rid of NHT because you don't want to be painted with the same brush. The thing is you can't just do nothing but bitch about it or nothing will ever change. And the next thing you know there's a city wide ban on hookah bars altogether and then where are you?

Guys, life is, well, chewy. There are problems and issues and misunderstandings. You have to respectfully stand up for what you believe to be injustice or you lose your right for real justice. It's just human nature to take silence for acquiesence.
