Since Group Buys Seem To Always Have Issues....

Recommended Posts

There will be no more group buys of ANYTHING on this forum. The liability for the forum as the place where such activities are organized is not worth it. If you want to organize these sort of things in the future do it via e-mail, aim, stickam, I don't care but they will NOT be organized here in case one of them turns into a scam.

Sorry guys. I know the first oen eventually worked out but this latest one is a disaster.

lol, i knew the last "group buy" was a disaster before it started.

the deal literally saved you 2 bucks from the ebay price on those hookahs...(had it even worked out properly)

Personally I don't think group buys are a big deal because, if you can spend it you can afford to lose it (my mentality with things like this)

But I understand Mush, probably for the best. Just glad the miniphunnels got here first wink.gif

wait what? youre ok with tossing money at a group deal and losing it all? really? so you see the group deal as a gamble? and youd rather have a chance at losing your money than spending an extra 2 bucks and getting what you wanted?

Not necessarily the point I was getting at. Since if I felt so inclined in any business transaction I would get my money back through patience or legal. My point was more along the lines of, if you spend money, then it's gone product in hand or not. And since they are with forum members and there are so many variables with what can go right or wrong then yes I would associate it with gambling closer than going to the local store and buying something.

If I gamble, play the stock market, etc. It's all money I'm comfortable losing, otherwise what's the point in spending the money if you can't afford to lose it?

I've lost money with more 'secure' venues anyway. For instance UPS put a $1400 projector of mine right out in the open on a college campus to wait for me all day (it got stolen), even though it was insured by me when I sent it and by the company when it was returned, as well as it's a violation of their policy. I still have not seen anything from it even though I'm keeping tabs on it. That would be one of the places I wouldn't expect to lose an investment, but now that I have, I'm going to get it back. And I didn't exactly count on the driver not following policy. There aren't but so many things that can go wrong with UPS delivering a package, but apparently it did on this one. In comparison, what's the point in being worried about a little group buy of hookahs?

Imo things like this should only be done if there is one organizing individual that's willing to front the costs, and not take money until there's a product in hand ready to be shipped... I personally have avoided group buys because of the large potential for complications, especially when there is a several month period between sending money and receiving goods.

I support mush on this, it's not like he's saying not to do it, just don't do it directly on here. Going through e-mail works just as well.

And you keep mentioning the $2 more idea, my question is where? I did a quick search on ebay to see if I had missed something before. And nope apparently not.

at the time the group buy was being discussed and organized a link was posted to an ebay auction, might have been in chat. it was those mini acrylics for literally 2 bucks more...and people said "pfft, im gonna be saving 2 bucks, this is a way better deal"...

ive had ups lose my stuff / break stuff during shipping...always gotten my money back without a problem. at least with UPS you know where you stand in terms of paying for the goods to a reputable company and having ups and the company deal with it (which is what should and does happen), with group buys, who knows.

Interesting, never heard about the link, I thought you meant something going on present day. But that's good to know. If I had known about the link I would have gotten em there. Shortened time in my opinion is worth $2.

I totally agree with you. On both points. I was just making my 'not worried' statement about group buys because of how vicious and vile some people are getting over their money. Not saying I'm made of money by any means. But I see hookah as a non essential and I'm smoking up my money daily _sheesha2__by_Majunka_aurore.gif so if I lose some, it's going to happen one way or the other and either way it's my choice that it happened.

As far as the UPS thing, the reason I think I'm having a problem is because it was stolen after their delivery, so I'm guessing they're being cautious in thinking I could have it still and just be trying to jip them out of money. So if you have any tips on dealing with them that'd be cool hi.gif

I get what you're saying about 'not worried'. I wish you the best of lucking getting those minis.

In regards to the UPS situation, if I were you, I would hound the company you bought the projector from. If they refuse to do anything, time to call the credit card company and have them cancel that payment. You really shouldn't be eating that loss. For something that pricey, there should have been signature required and either way UPS charges insurance for a reason.

well thats too bad to hear about that group buy. But then again it was way too complicated from the beginning, going from some guy through ebay to sps who collected money using pay-pal. also kinda sucks since they werent even selling shisha through paypal and actually selling something that is legal to sell through pay-pal.

Sigh...... All these "potential" exceptions....

Remember when you were all 10 years old and had some wonderful idea your parents put a stop to and you tried to negotiate all the "what ifs"? Didn't work then either.

If you want something buy it. If you can't afford it without a group buy, then you probably shouldn't be buying it in the first place.
